"No seed oils, grass-fed beef, grass-fed dairy, pastured raised eggs, scratch kitchen," says the Skylark Diner website. Based on the first-rate meals we enjoyed the other night, I think this is honest. I've gotten so used to just-okay cuisine served at the plethora of just-okay restaurants, I can vouch for that scratch kitchen claim, as Skylark reminded me of just how good food can taste. We shall return.

Skylark's on-line reservation form offered nothing before 6:30 in the evening. But when we arrived, many tables were open, so I don't see why we could not have made it 6:00, which is what I'd would've preferred. Next time, I'll just call.

A tip of the hat for Skylark's policy of discounting the bill by 3% if you pay in cash. Why don't all retail establishments offer this? It ought to be the law. Restaurants and stores that charge the same for payment in cash or credit card make more money if you pay with the former, as they don't have to fork over a cut to the banks issuing the latter.

Is a solid diner. Decent omelette. Decent coffee. Lots of space. Not crazy special but is a diner. You will expect what you expect from a regular diner here.

The food is really good, but they have to get their act together service-wise. Our waitress was friendly but told me to remind her to bring vinegar. (I don't like pre-mixed salad dressings). That's not my job, is it? I've been to diners where you made a special request for vinegar and they'd put it on the table before they gave you the food. Then you're sitting there waiting while the food gets cold.
It's little things like this that can make or break an experience, and make one hesitant to return.
Also, as we walked in, there were a bunch of yakking woman who already ate and were just hanging out at the door. The greeter asked if we were there first. We said, "Yes."
Then he goes to them and asks if they are waiting for a party. But they already ate!
He should have been more attention to us, as we were there bright eyed and ready to go in, whereas they were chatting amongst themselves oblivious to the world around them.
No eye contact. Same with another person working up front.
Also, we were seated in a booth, and they sat a couple with an annoying kid in the booth right across from us.
WHY do you do this to couples? Please, let couples have a little quiet space to themselves. There was plenty of room. The restaurant was not crowded.
I was considering coming for Easter, but maybe not.

Been to this place a couple of times but with every visit the experience was getting worst and worst. Today when we arrived during a brunch time the host told us it is a 10 min wait which was not a big deal at all. After we sat down the place was getting empty but unfortunately no one approached even though we were sitting right by the coffee bar and the staff saw the host sitting us down, one waitress did approach the tables next to us but ignored us all the way. After 20 mins of waiting we got up and left. Just a waste of time.

The decore is horrible...the server was more concerned with her phone than customers the food was outrageously priced and the quality was meh at best. t $50 for 2 people to have 2eggs bacon and homefries.

We’ve enjoyed brunch at Skylark Diner in Edison multiple times and always found the food and service to be excellent. However, our recent dinner visit was a completely different experience. After waiting, we were seated in an area where we were completely ignored for 20 minutes—no server came to take our order, while other tables seated after us were promptly served. Frustrated, we decided to leave. Unfortunately, this experience has completely changed our opinion of the restaurant, and we won’t be returning.

Went in it was busy, was told it would be a 20-25min wait 30min later I asked they said a 10min wait 20min later I asked and what's taking so long and they said they paused sitting people a while ago and should be another 5min finally we get a seat close to an 1hr after we come in. During this time I watch a group come in and tell them there are 9 groups ahead of them but 1 of them they stood near an empty table within 5 min the hostess told them they could sit there and then started getting served.

The food was good, the environment was fun and upbeat, but the service was slow, few visits to check on us, delay in getting water, condiments, and the check. I'm chalking it up to Sunday brunch. Nonetheless, it was fun we'll go back.

I like this place. It has a vibe. Large booths, wide open space and the food is good.
