If you know anything about NJ, you know that Edison has a large Asian community. If you want good authentic Asian food, then Edison is a good bet. Spice 24 is located in a strip mall with a number of Asian restaurants, an Asian chain supermarket, Korean spa, bakery, etc. First impression was that Spice 24 was really clean and the staff were extremely friendly. We were greeted and seated. A bowl of salted nuts (maybe chestnuts???) were placed on the table with glasses of water....
Spice 24 has been a staple in my household for the past 7 years. The food was always 10/10 prior to the renovations. After the renovations, I recently went to the location and the ambience has definitely improved. However, the dry pot bowl is not what it used to be. We ordered the black bean sauce - which barely had any black beans and was lacking flavor. The food was oilier and has lost its charm of being flavorful and saucy/spicy. Not sure if the chef has changed but please...
No longer cooking authentic Sichuan food, they have Americanized it. Ordered here delivery last week and this week. Last week it was acceptable but not spicy enough, this week it doesn’t have any spicy and I made sure to indicate the highest level of spice. I also ordered a spicy eggplant, it’s not spicy at all. They used to have extra spicy as an option, there was nowhere to write it in on DoorDash for any dish. They also used to have rattan pepper soup as a hotpot option...
