Best Japanese curry in NJ, and the miso soup is most satisfying.
We were excited to try HAMBA-GU’s sister restaurant after a great dinner. Sadly, it did not live up to expectations.
We ordered a sushi roll as an app, while tasty and fresh, it was disappointingly small relative to the price tag.
Curry was tasty and the hamburger was comparable, but cheese that I ordered on top was really funky, and not even melted into the curry. Even worse, the poached egg came out cold and clearly had been sitting in a bath of poached water remnants all day. The pork katsu my husband ordered was fatty, and not of great quality.
Unfortunate experience to say the least. We will return to HAMBA-GU, but not likely to come back for the curry.
Amazing. Love this place. If the owner can smile more it would be awesome.
Very clean, well maintained. This used to be owned by Japanese as a sushi restaurant but I guess its been that long I haven’t visited this spot. I was looking for the ‘Japanese thick cut katsu’ and it was done pretty well. It was surprisingly quiet for a weekend lunch, which made me hope more people discover this place soon. The staff seemed a bit down—understandably so—but I believe they’re on the right path with their katsu.
My all time favorite spot for curry and katsu. I was never a japanese curry girl until I tried this place. It's hearty and hits every time. I also love their chicken karaage, tonjiro soup, and eel sushi! The eel comes out warm and super fresh. But it is quite pricey for how much they give you. The service is top notch as well. Other than that, I will keep on going here to get my japanese curry/katsu fix.
Cute cozy spot. Katsu was lightly breaded and salted and definitely satisfied. Side of soup had surprising substance. Loved the coquette. Pepper tuna was tasty but a bit thin. Great service. Would come back to try the karaage
Absolutely wonderful ❤️. The food was authentic, delicious, and very affordable. Service was perfect and they play great music not too loud. Thank you for having us we will be back for sure 🙏.
Delicious curry, would definitely come back!

Got lunch with a friend and we got the Garden Vegetable Curry and Karaage Curry, both of which came with miso soup. Absolutely amazing flavors in both the curry and the miso soup!! They add additional spices and veggies to the miso soup so it's truly special. Chicken was fried to perfection, crunchy and juicy but not greasy. Interior is very small and a bit cramped, but warm and cozy. The staff were quick and efficient. Definitely want to go back!
Parking: Parking lot in the back is very small, only about 15 spots

I was thrilled to experience Japanese curry for the first time, and it was absolutely delightful. The flavors were extraordinary. The spot is charmingly small and cozy. The service was both polite and pleasant. I will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend Sazanami Curry Bar.

We were really looking forward to coming here seeing the reviews but avoid by all means. The service was horrible. Can you imagine our server telling us that the portions were small and we didn’t order enough food?
In hindsight we should have walked out. This particular server who is also the sushi/appetizer chef was extremely rude to my gf and I.
The food gets 1.5 stars. The curry isn’t exactly Japanese curry and we were never asked about the spicy level. Oh btw, this is a Korean operated restaurant, not Japanese. If you are looking for good Japanese curry, I recommend Mitsuwa which is 15 min away. We are never coming back here.
