Older manger/owner not sure sat in front of me and my boyfriend at the bar and just looked at us. Didnt address us or anything thru our entire meal. Meanwhile other people came in after us and we were first and he addressed everyone and said hi multiple times besides me and my boyfriend. At the end of this ill say we began to stare back and the atmosphere got real uncomfortable. Needless to say we were the first people in the restaurant and the only african Americans . Connect the dots.

It's a storied place. Groups of friends have come here weekly since the good old days when the broad street bullies would show up en masse after the hockey game. The chicken parm is pretty good, too.

Awesome Brunch Burger! Great service and beautiful decor. Was going to another place originally but a Devine hand led us to Rexy's by closed roads. Definitely returning to when I'm in the area.

They are classified as an Italian restaurant but whoever runs the kitchen must like spicy hot food because EVERYTHING on their menu is incredibly spicy. Dishes that should not be hot & spicy are such as chicken parm and penne pasta. They seem to mix something very spicy mixed into the sauce. You can barely taste the crab in the cakes because they are loaded with peppers. Very disappointed when we experienced this because I have been there in years past and the food was not like this.

The interior at Rexys is very updated, it’s like classic regal meets modern farmstand. I absolutely loved their style. I was excited to go here because they came highly recommended from my close friend’s step mother. She said they have great local charm and delicious food. They stood out in her memory of south jersey over any other restaurant (assuming it’s still the original owners from like 20 years ago). I wish we experienced what she remembered; however we were met by blatant avoidance by what appeared to be the only waitress working on a Saturday night. The service was thoroughly aggravating and rude. There was no eye contact, no friendly hello and we’ll be right with you, just the lone server’s back and other people having a clearly very different experience than us. The hostess was warm and welcoming and the people at the bar appeared to be having a nice experience.

If you would have removed us from the equation, Rexys would probably receive all great reviews tonight.

We didn’t say anything, didn’t want to make a fuss or cause a scene, clearly we were being alienated for a reason. I just desperately looked for a server, bus person or host to make eye contact with me in my general vicinity and it just never happened. It took about 25 minutes for the waitress to come to us for drinks and appetizers. I was so mad. There was a couple in their 60s across from us, a table of 6 older people ahead of us so it’s not like she just didn’t know we were there. We were seated in the center of her small string of tables. They were not busy at this time and she had some years on her. She didn’t appear to be a trashy inexperienced older woman that just couldn’t keep up with her tables. We were being ignored. Again from what I was observing from other tables she was a warm and friendly person, just not in this situation.

The only thing that came to my mind is racism.

My partner is dark Peruvian. He’s a mix of black and native, super intelligent, well-educated and overall a wonderful person. It astounds me when we experience treatment like this especially in this area being so close to Philly.

The hostess brought us our appetizers and asked us for anything else. It was the first normal friendly interaction since we sat down. I thanked her for being friendly and assisting our avoidant server. Idk if she made a comment to the waitress or what but from that point on, the waitress slowly became less avoidant and actually started to make regular stops at our table.

The food was decent. Their calamari appetizer was impressive. They gave us so much, we needed to take some home. Marcos had their bistro burger which was HUGE! He seemed to enjoy it and I had their chicken Marsala with a side of mashed and green beans. Everything but the green beans was really good. The green beans were super rubbery. Normally I would bring everything home to not be wasteful but they were so terrible, I left them. We also tried their black and white rice pudding. I don’t recommend it. It was impressive looking but the pudding itself was very starchy not creamy at all.

Although we had a crap first time at Rexys, I would like to go back. I want to return with my sister or mom as a kind of social experiment to see if we experience the same issue. Again their atmosphere and food (for the most part) was good. I’m hoping the alienation we experienced is due to this one waitress and not a systemic issue of this establishment.

We had ordered sausage pizza and salad. The server was prompt and friendly. The pizza was loaded with spicy sausage and was cooked perfectly. Our salads were a great size and were very good. All and all it was a great experience.

Food was good, Staff was nice. BUT got there at 8:25 and was only given a 9-11 menu which had no pasta just salads and flatbread. I came to a italian restaurant for pasta, meatballs anything italian. I feel for the staff because this is obviously a management decision. It’s a shame with a place with so much potential to be failed by managers.
