Rizes Greek Taverna

Absolutely delicious! Having lived in Astoria NY for many years, I've had a lot of incredible Greek food and Rizes is the best Greek food I've had since. We enjoyed the dips (esp the kafteri), calamari, prasini salad, gyro and souvlaki. My son loves tzatziki and said it was the best he's ever had, so much so, I had to get a second order just for him. We can't wait to come back and try some other dishes and are so glad you're in our neighborhood!!

The food is fabulous! If you're a fan of Gigantes, these will be the best you've ever eaten. We loved everything- saganaki, shrimp souvlaki, gigantes, makarona, and desserts! Every seat was filled, so make a reservation.

Best new spot for Greek food! I went for dinner with my family and ordered different plates to try and everything came out delicious! So many options for everyone and very flavorful. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and always made sure we were taken care of.
It’s like a little piece of Greece right in our neighborhood. We’ll definitely be coming back again

From the moment we walked in, we could tell this place was something special. You can really tell that Dimitri, the owner, puts his heart and soul into every detail — from the food to the service to the overall hospitality. Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh and full of authentic flavor. Our waiter Jose was absolutely phenomenal — attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. It’s rare to find a restaurant that combines such warm service with outstanding food. We’ll definitely be coming back soon!

Brotha… best Greek food I’ve had in a while. If I didn’t know I was in America I would’ve thought I was in a taverna in Greece for sure. Octopus was extremely soft a delicious, lighting the saganaki on fire was a hit, and the horiatiki was like no other. Great job και Ο +Θεός+ μαζί σου, Δημήτρη ☦️💪🇬🇷

If I could give Rizes Greek Taverna more than five stars I would because it deserves ten stars after the meal we just had. We could smell the amazing food from outside before we even walked in the door so we knew we were in for a treat! The owner, Dimitri, welcomes you and you can tell he poured his whole heart into this restaurant and it shows in the food and the atmosphere. We felt like we were eating at his home! We had the octopus, calamari, saganaki and horiatiki salata for appetizers and all were phenomenal. For entrees we had the moussaka, the chicken souvlaki platter, the gyro platter and the lavraki and again, all incredible and authentic. We finished our meal with the galaktoboureko and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Make sure you don’t miss out on this place - the neighborhood is lucky to have Rizes!

I ate here the Saturday night after the place opened. It was packed. The Chicken Souvlaki Platter was delicious and very tender. I will be back.

The atmosphere in Rizes felt like a classic taverna in Greece. Fantastic service, with the owner Dimitri greeting us at the door and checking in on us while we ate. The food was delicious and authentic. We got a bunch of appetizers for the table: the horiatiki salad, the calamari, the tyrokafteri dip with pita, the saganaki, and the kolokithokeftedes. The salad and calamari were so fresh, with the calamari having a delicious bread coating and not tasting rubbery at all. The tyrokafteri was not too spicy and had a good amount of pita to go with it. The flaming saganaki had a light crunch and was perfectly melted on the inside. The kolokithokeftedes were large pieces that paired great with the tzatziki. We also got an order of gemista and a side of lemon roasted potatoes, both of which were cooked just right with a delicious blend of Greek spices. My personal favorite was the portokalopita we got for dessert. The presentation was beautiful, and it tasted just as great as it looked. The fact that it was brought to us perfectly warmed up shows me they know what they’re doing at Rizes. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

Wonderful hospitality! The owner and staff are very gracious and personable. I have ordered Moussaka, Biftekia, and Octopus, all were rich with flavor and left me looking forward to my next visit! Highly recommend.
