We heard about Castaways from some friends and had to give it a try. The drinks were a little expensive but maybe because we had several and it added up. The food was better than good and my wife commented that the fish was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was prompt and courteous. It was a good time and that’s what we look for during the winter.

We had heard Castaways Pub was pretty good and we pass it weekly on our way home from Church in Lavalette. My wife order the onion soup, hers had barely any cheese but a friend of the owners was loaded with cheese. I ordered the Coconut Seafood Chowder, first bad impression was when I came up with just a shrimp tail on my spoon. Did someone bite off the shrimp and throw the tail back in??? Was supposed to be lumped with Cod fish and shrimp. I had one small piece of fish which I do not believe was Cod, very thin and was showing a dark blood line which I have never had in Cod when I caught and fileted many times. I would not waste $14 dollars on this bowl of soup that had less than one shrimp, a shrimp tail and a tiny piece of Tilapia. My wife's steak sandwich was bland and she asked for horseradish sauce, they bought plain horseradish. There was no garlic taste from the broccoli rabe. Let's not even talk about my shredded pork meat tacos. I probably wouldn't come here again.

Great little neighborhood feel pub. Food is constantly good as are the drinks. Summers and warmer weather has the outside opened up as well with entertainment. If you are in Lavallette area, it is definitely worth a try.

Came to castaways today what a terrible experience. We came for the outside music he was cold and went in side We ordered a drink and it was terrible. We had the wings which were good . I had the bacon bleu burger and my wife had the fish taco both were awful didn’t even eat it. Told the waitress who apologized numerous times I paid the bill. I gave the waitress a good tip wasn’t her fault. I don’t understand how food could be that bad. Please do not waste your money or time. This place is way too expensive for the non quality of food.

Had appetizers and cocktails yesterday afternoon. Ordered the nachos OMG the best we've had! Crab cakes were delicious but could be a bit larger portion size for the cost, and the bacon blue salad was yummy and large so can easily be divided. Looking forward to trying dinner. Outdoor seating was refreshing, perfect September weather!

Fun place, but a bit overpriced. Didn't get a chance to sample the food, was a bit too crowded. Outdoor bars were neat too. Only real complaint is that they charge a fee to use your credit card.. that's unacceptable. No one uses or carries cash these days, and any fee associated with credit card use needs to be absorbed by the establishment, NOT the customer. Aside from that, I'd still come back, but only if someone else is paying.

As a local, we have come over in the winter months to enjoy a few drinks and music. Today, we went for lunch. We were seated at the bar, as they were quite busy. Our first impression was the bartenders snippy comment because only one of the four of us ordered alcohol. The beer that was ordered was warm from the tap. Then we sat for at least 25 minutes without the bartender even glancing our direction, let alone asking for our order. We decided to cash out and leave. We paid and left. As we were walking down the block, the bartender ran after us, accusing us of not paying our tab (they took our cc upon ordering). We explained that we did pay. He then told us that we didn’t have to be nasty, he only works there and was doing his job. We were not nasty, we just didn’t appreciate being ignored which is why we left. What a disappointing experience. I will not be returning. 0 stars for service. I cannot rate food this time, as we were not given the opportunity to order. I have since spoken to someone from the restaurant and he told me to f*** off and he doesn’t need people like me in his restaurant. This was after making excuses for his staff.
