I am sad to write this as someone who has been coming since I was a child, but the birthday cake I got from here was really just not good, the chocolate buttercream tasted like grocery store vanilla with maybe a sprinkle of chocolate to make it brown, the cake was dry, and the “cannoli” filling just tasted like plain ricotta cheese. Been coming here for 20+ years and had an unusual experience this weekend. First, don't order the banana peanut butter coffee thing - $8 went right into the trash, unfortunately. Also at 9am, all the fresh coffee containers were empty without it being very crowded. Hope to return to the regular 5 stars!
The crumb cake is the best! The bakery has a wide variety of scrumptious treats. I was very disappointed, however, with the Brown Derby cake. It used to have real whipped cream, strawberries, bananas and, of course, chocolate cake. Real whipped cream has been replaced by awful stiff white stuff and strawberry jelly has been added. It was very disappointing. Brown Derbies are hard to find, but I won't be buying it from Colonial anymore.
