Nostalgia for locals seems to be a big part of the appeal. The menu has a wide variety of pub food. Staff was distant and seemed tired after a long day. The establishment was clean and the layout was slightly clunky with wobbly seats and tables. The pizza was good and seems to be popular with lots of pickup orders. Looking forward to trying it again when we are in the area.

MANASQUAN: Squan Tavern has been a staple in town since the 1960’s and is a local and tourist favorite ever since then. A few blocks from the beach and right in the downtown area, they offer dog friendly seasonal outdoor seating and serve up Italian food and drinks from a full bar. We spent a beautiful day sitting under the tent and it was very comfortable and full of tables. The pasta with marinara sauce and a glass of wine really hit the spot and was so fresh and delicious. The service was fast and friendly too. A five minute drive away is Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area where dogs can be on-leash on the east-side of the beach at the Manasquan Inlet.

Megan was our server for our stay. She was friendly, respectful, courteous and very attentive. I had 1 request of her. If we are being served warm bread can we get soft butter. Nothing worse in any restaurant to get butter as hard as a rock. She tucked the packets of butter under our warm bread. Fantastic. My knife cut thru the soft butter and spread over the whole piece of bread. Little things are important. Nice Job Megan. T star restaurant with a 5 star server. She is an asset to your team. Our first time visiting and our group of 6 had a delicious lunch. Trish greeted us and got us settled at a table right away. She gave us a little background on the tavern and it definitely has a family run feel. Our server, Victoria, was so pleasant and friendly. We knew we had to try the pizza so we all shared a pie as a starter and it was delicious. Hot, fresh, crispy crust and we loved it. We had sandwiches and side salads for our meal and they were plenty large! I enjoyed my eggplant parm sandwich and salad and brought half home with me. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and will be back!!

The food is great, but the service is terrible. We had the same waitress as the last time we were there. The service is always bad. Asked for additional sauce and salad dressing, never received either. Had to get up and ask another waitress, our waitress was too busy talking with another table. Also asked for refills, waited way too long. Unhappy Customer
