🔥 Best Mexican Spot in Matawan – A Hidden Gem!🔥
Stopped by Aby’s in Matawan on the recommendation of my good friend Nick Smutz, who couldn’t stop raving about this place—and now I see why! From the moment we walked in, Elias and his son Manny made us feel like we’d been coming here for years. Their hospitality is top-notch, and the vibe is as welcoming as it gets.
Now, let’s talk about the food—phenomenal is an understatement. We went with their recommendations, and they did NOT disappoint. Ceviche and chorizo to start, paired with fresh salsa and chips that had just the right kick. For the mains, I had the steak chimichanga, and let me tell you—it’s hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had. My friend enjoyed the fresh mixed fajitas, and we split the birria tacos, which were next-level.
Aby’s is officially my new go-to Mexican spot.If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out! 🌮🔥💯

My family & I visited a week ago. The staff greets you like family. You instantly feel comfortable. The aesthetics is beautiful with it's colorful surroundings and historical paintings of Puebla, Mexico. Most importantly the food was delicious, plentiful & moderately priced. Also loved the private ample parking. The restaurant has an adjacent party room for rent and I'll be having my grandson's birthday there. Great place!
Parking: Very convenient parking on premises.
Kid-friendliness: We had my grandson's 1st bday in Aby's adjacent room. Aby's staff was very accommodating to all the kids.

The tortilla soup and salsa were a bit bland. Service was exceptional and my friend really enjoyed her quesadilla.

Aby's just reopened after being closed for a fire. The remodel is great, very authentic Mexican atmosphere. Went on a Wednesday night only a handful of customers, the service was great. The salsa was fresh and not overly spiced. We had a shrimp and crab appetizer that was delicious. My wife had the taco salad bowl with blackened chicken, I had the burrito and chimichanga combo. The dinners were hot, plentiful and delicious. Don't hesitate to go and bring your own beer or margaritas.
Prices are simply unrealistic. $22 for a chicken burrito? A couple’s dinner date is like $70-$80 all in after tip for 2 entrees, guac app, and 2 soft drinks. If owner is reading this - your food is good but the prices are just unsustainable. Comparable competition around the area has much more reasonable pricing. Sorry guys but it’s just the truth.

They played the same song on loop for the entirety of our time dining. When I asked if they had any other songs to play other than the same one that was played six times prior they giggled and turned the music off completely.the food looked great but had no flavor, I ordered the chicken Verde and my date ordered the flautas which was very dry. With only 2 other couples dining we had the whole place to ourselves. Unfortunately our server never checked in on us to see how our food came out. We won't be going back here to dine cause it was a really crummy experience.
