Good guac.
Soft shell chicken “tacos” if you even want to call them that were pathetic. It was dried up grilled chicken by itself thrown on a soft taco shell. Not even sure how it can be called a taco.
Service was prompt, food was very good. Pleasant atmosphere.
The food was really delicious!! Authentic ... Service was good. So cute!! The chips and salsa ?
Amazing. The food was wonderful.
After reading the mixed reviews here I decided to try it tonight. I should have listened, this place is horrible. Service is non-existent and the food is terrible. We ordered the ceviche with crab and shrimp, there was no crab, when asked we were told it was small shredded pieces. No water available except for bottled so asked for that and a lemon. Got the water and limes after being given a sprite instead of the water. Ordered the mariachi fajitas and no seasoning, shrimp still had the tails on them, the steak was overcooked and the beans tasted like watered down canned beans. The chicken looked frozen. Go somewhere else with service and better food.
Since they opened, I’ve eaten there twice and attempted to order takeout from them twice. Each time was a very bad experience. The first time was soon after they opened. It took so long to get the attention of a waitress to get a soda (after asking several times), I walked to a nearby store and bought a can and returned to the restaurant before my food was delivered. The service was awful and a miss on every item. The next time, was with a different group of people and several years later, but the service was nearly as bad and I had to send back a dish because it was not what I ordered. The food was good, but the service was the worst! So, thinking that we could avoid the service issue, a couple of months ago, I attempted to order by phone, but even though they had 2 phone numbers, nobody answered the phone and there was no message. It just kept ringing and ringing. So, today, we tried again it took three calls to straighten out our order. We finally cancelled. Bottom line: Worst service, food okay, but not worth the bad service.
My family and I just had the most delicious meal at Mariachi Mexican in matawan. The staff was super friendly and very accomadating to our dietary needs. The food was outstanding!
Mariachi’s was recommended to me when another (vastly overhyped) restaurant had an hour and a half wait. I took a chance with out of town guests and a rather large party. The food, service, and attention is amazing. Everyone was served large portions of delicious food and the staff was very attentive to our needs, despite how many people we had. Since then, Mariachi’s (Metuchen) has been our go-to for dinners out. My son loves the chimichangas, my wife loves the chicken and steak fajitas, and I love the enchiladas verde. You can’t go wrong; the table side prepared guacamole is made according to your preferences and is phenomenal!
Extremely disappointed in this new restaurant. We were all looking forward to trying this place because the decor is cute, however, the service was not up to par. When we sat down we did not have utensils or small plates and when the waitress came over originally we weren’t offered any beverages besides water. The food was decent, but a little pricey. We asked different members of the staff multiple times for water refills and were consistently ignored. It’s BYOB but clearly it should also be BYOW (bring your own water). Another thing to note, there’s a service charge for credit cards that was not communicated until the bill came which is unprofessional. If you’re interested in trying it, maybe get take out if they offer it.

They serve tap water that's seemingly unfiltered, so not so good tasting. They charged $3 for a little 8 oz bottle of coke, and I'm guessing refills cost $3. The chips and salsa do not seem home made. The salsa tasted like Ortega taco sauce out of a jar. There was a $1.50 credit card service fee... seriously? Somebody should tell the management that nickel and dime-ing customers is a bad idea. There are a dozen Mexican restaurants within a short driving distance, and some of them are very good. That's the bad stuff. I decided I might not come back until we got the entrees. They were very good. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The food quality was definitely above average. The decor was nice as well. The service was good, but the place was empty. The server was not overly friendly, but definitely not rude, and did not ignore us.The place is relatively new, so I am hoping it improves. It's all easy stuff to fix. I might not be back for a long time, but I might try it again.
