The only rival is a food truck parked in a gas station, down the road. IYKYK. So, love everything about this classic throwback. Very nostalgic for me. We love the Stewart’s in Rahway, we moved here and wanted to check out a fav spot. This does not measure up to Rahway. The service was oddly slow. There were 2 servers, then one just went in the back and the poor guy was by himself. The food took forever to come out. Unlike Rahway, the burgers are frozen thick Patties. The hot dogs are different and they’re on some weird brioche bread that gets soggy. We got soda, the glass was frozen but it doesn’t stay frozen and the young kid didn’t put ice in it. It was so weird. Some guy waited until we were almost done with our food for his hotdogs. We made eye contact and laughed bc it was painfully slow.Unfortunately, not worth going back, but the one in Rahway is.

Absolutely love this place. I have been coming here for 50 yrs. Food is exactly the same. Nothing has changed except prices. Staff is amazing also. Love how you can still eat in your car.
It's always a good time for me. Fries always crisp. Sometimes we forget how good we have it. I went to a different grill spot...could taste the old, oxidized grease. Never had bad eatin at Matawan Stewart's.
