There are so many sushi restaurants in the area. It actually becomes hard to find the hidden gems that you MUST visit. Wasabi Kaizen checks off all the boxes. From the decor, to the amazing staff, to the delicious food. You will see us here on a regular basis. I highly recommend.

Whoever says “money can’t buy happiness” has clearly never had a meal at Wasabi Kaizen. Their service & staff are amazing, everyone is so friendly! I’ve had the Spicy Wagyu Ramen a number of times now, & I’m still not over it. Their build your own ramen option offers so many choices. Start with the Star Crab Salad, finish the Crepe Cake for dessert & thank me later!

First time trying since they rebranded and the food was excellent. The beef ramen had extremely tender meat and the broth had a little kick to it. It might not be spicy enough for those who like spicy/hot but I’m sure they can customize things. I really enjoyed the ramen. The bone marrow really shined. The sushi was fresh as usual.

Been to a few ramen spots in the area. The Spicy Beef Bowl is my favorite along with the edamame beans as an appetizer. The flavor is consistent. Highly Recommend!

We came a day early for our anniversary because of the pending snowstorm but we got there right as they opened and we got seated immediately. We came for the Chirashi but we also saw they had some specials for the weekend, so of course we had to get the wagyu sliders. Those are very very good.
We got the Chirashi and it was also very good. We also got one Philadelphia roll it had smoked salmon in it, also good. Definitely no complaints in any of the food. Atmosphere's fine, nothing crazy but I'm there for the food not for stuff hanging on the wall like cracker barrel.
My wife already asked when can we go back because she wants to try the wagyu steak, I would definitely call ahead to make sure they have something like that because it might be limited. But I definitely will be definitely going back.
PS. Forgot to say after we ate I ordered more sliders.

this was my first time at Wasabi. my friend and i ordered the omakasi. it was incredible. chef’s choices were excellent and the presentation wonderful. the flavors were on target. the toro was straight from the market. the tea was a pleasure and first rate.
the omakasi was more classic japanese than fusion. the menu is extensive with unique dishes. i highly recommend it. you will walk out with a smile on your face.

Restaurantji Recommends
Sushi is always very delicious and fresh. The new owner Wally is very friendly. Hoi (I may be misspelling his name) has always had the freshest fish - I've been going for years. We're thinking of doing a private party - they are now able to cordon off areas of the restaurant for private events. Highly recommend. Henrik and Jen ❤

Their online menu states that brown rice can be put on the sushi, but after sitting & ordering my sushi with brown rice, they waited until after we were eating our apps to tell us that there is no brown rice available to put on the sushi. I would not have driven 35 minutes to dine there since I can’t eat white rice. Extremely disappointed that something advertised on their menu was not an option.

I picked Wasabi Kaizen for a small private party. I approached cautiously because the place had very few reviews on Google Maps but was still drawn to it because the food photos looked very attractive. I test-drove the restaurant by having lunch there a few days before the party - 3-roll special for $18 plus a handroll to test preparation and fish freshness. Two thumbs up. To be fair, the appetizer salad dressing was a bit too sweet and needed some soy sauce to set it off. But great overall.
I spoke to the owner to organize the party and found him very responsive and diligent. When the party started, everything was prepared and served very quickly. I ate many different rolls off the sushi boat, and they were beyond reproach. Ditto for the salads and hot food.
The restaurant building looks rather small and can be missed when one drives along Route 34 but it's very pleasant inside. The service is good, and the staff (sushi chefs and waiters) are pleasant, easy going yet super efficient.
I have looked for decent sushi around South River and tried a few before. Wasabi Kaizen is my choice.
PS Forgot to mention that the prices were very reasonable.

The best and freshest sashimi every time I have visited! Staff are all super nice and friendly! Cooked food is super delicious too 😋 I’ve have been to other Japanese restaurants around the area and I would go home being super thirsty bc they add way to much MSG. But I never experience being thirsty after I eaten at Wasabi Kaizen. I highly recommend this restaurant!
