This is my first review that I felt it was so important to write. If you have a food allergy like onions DO NOT GO! I called ahead and also spoke to the waiter and management. After waiting one hour the food was delivered with onions. And then they were so rude and said the chef was too busy and didn’t have time to notice the allergy!! The service in gener was terrible and the other dishes were not good. A horrible experience and a wasted evening !
Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Made everyone in our party sick with diarrhea same night and next morning. Greasy/lack of flavor, extremely low quality food. Service was terrible - waving goodbye to us while we’re still sitting at the table talking and they’re not even closed yet. Staring at us the entire time we’re eating - very annoying and rude. Will never return and don’t recommend. Also, lobsters in view are disgusting - felt like I was in Shoprite fish section.

So disappointing! Did their chefs even learn how to cook? The food was so bad it was practically inedible. What was going on with the twice-cooked pork? This is not how it’s supposed to be made! The meat should be sliced pork belly that’s been pan-fried, but instead, they used the kind of pre-soaked pork slices you find in Chinese takeout dishes. It tasted just like the pork and broccoli stir-fry from a typical takeout place, which costs only $10, while this dish was $20—and it wasn’t even as good as takeout! They should rename it “Mixed Vegetables with Boiled Pork.” As a meat lover, I ended up only picking out some green peppers and cabbage because the pork was just too unappetizing.
The braised pork with preserved vegetables was also far from authentic. The portion was generous, but the taste was completely off. It lacked the rich aroma of preserved mustard greens and pork belly—it just had an indescribably unpleasant taste. I seriously doubt the chef knows how to cook.
The beef fried rice was another disappointment. It wasn’t even as good as the $10 fried rice from a takeout place, yet they charged $17 for it. We barely touched it, and no one wanted to take another bite.
Eating this food felt like an insult to my belly. We ended up leaving most of it untouched. We spent over 100 dollars, and honestly, we would have been better off just getting pizza. I don’t even like pizza because it’s too salty for my liking, but at least it’s edible and fills you up. We came to this restaurant expecting to pay more for good food, but the experience was just awful.
If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food in New Jersey, it’s best to go to Edison instead!

Authentic Chinese food in Cantonese style. Weekend and holidays Dim Sum is very good. Better make a reservation before your visit. Their Pork chops in Peking style is very good, you should try.

Came in for dinner for two people and they don’t take reservations for less than 6 people so we came in hoping we can. Be seated which we were. After about twenty minutes of waiting for anything we asked if they can take our order. The owner than came up to us and said the food will take one hour to bring they said you can wait or you can leave. We left and wouldn’t wanna come back. Atmosphere and hostess is not welcoming they act like they do you a favor by seating you. Big pass on this place.
My wife and I are returning customers and we know that the food at West Lake is great. We even took my mother-in-law (who is visiting from Canada) there. But when we went for Dim Sum yesterday, December 22nd, something happened that made us very unhappy. A cart lady had given us a dim sum item that we did not order, and my wife mentioned this to my mother-in-law who was there with us. Another cart lady overheard the conversation between my wife and my mother-in-law, and snapped at my wife three times: "You did order it, otherwise we would not have given it to you!" My wife said: "It's alright, we will eat it."
It could have been settled right there, but that cart lady returned in anger and yelled in a hostile tone: "Here, I will take the dish back and I won't charge you for it!" And on top of that, she yelled at my wife: "You are pointing fingers at me!" It felt like the cart lady got a sense of excitement by yelling. - My wife responded immediately: "I was pointing at my mother, not at you." - The cart lady said nothing and walked away.
This is unacceptable. It was never my wife's intention to get into a fight, since it was just a misunderstanding about the dish we did not order. There was no need for the cart lady to go that far and accuse my wife of finger-pointing. The situation was very embarrassing, as the cart lady was scolding very loudly and the tables nearby could hear everything. We will not come back to West Lake anytime soon!

Very busy. Might as well have been invisible. Had to ask for rice, water and hot tea. Meals arrived haphazardly. Food is very good, though.

I'm unsure what to think about this restaurant. When I walked in at dinner time, they looked confused! I don't know if it was because I was by myself or that I'm of brown skin tone. While ordering the male waiter spoke to me as if I couldn't afford some of the food I had pointed out! The waiters( including him ), were not as attentive to me, like they were with the people of (Asian) same descent or people with a lighter skin tone. When my meals came out, I noticed that my portions were half the size I saw being delivered to the tables, where 2 or more people sat . Even though I paid full price for my meals like everyone else. I even had to send an item back because it was soggy and completely over cooked! The waiters were pushing chairs into my table when others left, but didn't do it to the couple that was sitting next to me! Once again, I'm unsure if it was because of either reason I mentioned earlier. So, today I went for lunch. The same male waiter who I had the first time I visited, was my waiter again. My food came out before my soup! And he didn't bring it out! Another person did! Then at the end of my meal, he tried to make me bag up my own food! I know their policy, being that I was there a few days before. I had witnessed them taking everyone else's food to the back, while bringing the to-go trays out to me, to do it myself! Before he took my food to the back, I corrected him as he tried to play it off and blame his actions on me! As if I told him to do that! I calmly and quietly collected my food, paid my bill and did not leave him a tip for being so rude towards me! The food is decent, but the wait staff sucks! I work hard for my money like everyone else! I deserve the same respect as everyone else! I am spending my hard earned money to support your establishment, with that money, same as the next person! ?Therefore, I will no longer support your business and will gladly take my money to a place that appreciates and shows respect to their customers no matter the color of their skin! NO ONE DESERVES TO BE MISTREATED! ?? "EVERYONE" THERE WAS RUDE (EVEN THE FEMALES!) ALL ACCEPT THE MAN AT THE FRONT ENTRANCE! He was at least kind to me.

We love coming here for the dim sum on weekends and their egg drop soup! They serve everything family style and they even hell you plate. It’s a very nice restaurant with traditional food. They are making it all fresh and the vegetables are always crisp and fresh in their dishes. We also like their approach to the duck- they completely butcher it and take away the complicated bones. They have very good hot tea, excellent shrimp dim sum and they give you a fruit with the check. I enjoy coming here with my family.
