I called and asked if they still offered the Turkey Meatloaf which I have ordered before thru uber eats. The person that answered simply said 'I don't have'. I could barely make out what he was saying. This explains why they keep forgetting to include the paid for cornbread side item.

Traveling to a new state without any food recommendations can be a challenge. I decided to search for soul food near me, and this restaurant came up. The food was incredible! We ordered an oxtails plate and a shrimp plate, both of which were an easy 10 out of 10. The service was exceptional, and the atmosphere added to the experience. I think the guy sitting in front of us was the owner. His wife and kids were very sweet. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and trying more items from their menu. Oh, and the drink was fire.

First time eating here. I heard the food was good. The place need an upgrade. It looks gloomy and dingy for a restaurant. Against my better judgment because of the look, I placed an order anyway. Safe to say, I will not eat here again. I found "hair" in my mac & cheese. Let's get better with cleanliness when handling food. Hairnets should be worn. If your touching the cash register, tablet, card machine or any other object with gloves on please change your gloves before touching or handling the food.

Great food and really generous servings. I loved that the chicken was fall off the bone tender. everything in general was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I spent about $70 for two people but we do usually order a bunch of sides + drinks. I would definitely recommend this to anyone new to soul food. The staff is also very friendly!
I’ve been coming here for years, and while their customer service has always been terrible, the food was good enough for me to overlook the poor automated service. Years later, the customer service is still awful, but now the food quality has declined too. It seems like there’s only one Hispanic cook in the kitchen making the food. My mac and cheese didn’t taste the same—it had no flavor. The yams weren’t as sweet, and the whiting was beyond salty. Yeah, I won’t be coming back.

Great food. Generous serving size. I love the collard greens, candied yams and Mac N cheese. They do a good job on the fish as well. The Oxtails and rice is also very good. I thought the turkey meatloaf was pretty OK. Not the best but not bad.

The first time was dry stewed chicken. I decided to give them another chance and got bad tasting cat fish and winggets. They were not cooked well. Soft and tasteless. I started to leave when I noticed they called the cook from the back and she was Mexican. That's not soul food. Iv had it. Cornbread's is far for travel but worth bypassing this place. I will not be fooled again.

I ordered candied yams, catfish and Mac n cheese. The candied yams were too sweet to me it tasted like a dessert more than a side dish, the catfish was not even edible it tasted way too salty which was disappointing. The Mac n cheese was not bad but overall I didn’t really like anything.
Today my family and I ordered food from the North Plainfield location where the service was nice overall. We all ordered oxtails and rice which came with a large portion of oxtails which is a plus. However, all the sides were "extra" despite the site showing the meal comes with 1 side. And sadly the sides were not good. The potato salad was inedible because it was drowned in vinegar, the mac and cheese was gummy and lacked cheddar and the collard greens were only okay. Definitely not worth the money.

Ordered food from here for the first time, my wife and I are huge foodies and will eat anything. When I say everything we ordered was delicious, we mean it. Jerk chicken was well-seasoned, mac and cheese tasted phenomenal and would recommend this place highly for some amazing comfort food!

Even though the website says 12$ for a chicken platter, it came out to be 19$ which was disappointing at first but the portions were large and the Jerk chicken (3 pieces) was fall off the bone tender and well seasoned. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and the fries were crispy and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place even with the price.
