BombayWala is hands down the best Indian restaurant I’ve experienced anywhere in the United States — and yes, that includes some of the most hyped and overpriced spots in NYC. The flavors here are absolutely authentic, deeply satisfying, and clearly made with love and expertise.

Every dish bursts with perfectly balanced spices, just like true home-style Indian cooking. Whether you’re trying their creamy paneer tikka masala, buttery garlic naan, or their melt-in-your-mouth samosas — every bite is a celebration of real Indian cuisine.

The staff is incredibly welcoming, the ambiance is warm and inviting, and the service is top-notch. You can tell this place doesn’t just serve food — it delivers an experience. And what’s even more impressive? The quality is better than what I’ve had at NYC’s luxury Indian restaurants, and at a fraction of the price.

If you’re craving genuine Indian flavors that hit the soul — BombayWala is the place. This isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a hidden gem that deserves national recognition. I’ll be coming back again and again.

This place is a true delight. Been here endless number of times. Their schezwan frankie is just heaven!!! If you don’t like it, trust me your taste buds have issues. Pahadi Sandwich is my second best. All their sodas are really good!! Highly highly recommended!

Like mentioned in some previous comments, food is pricey, food portions are very small for its price, service is good and servers are attentive. Definitely done a decent job with trying to recreate a vibe. I might recommend trying it out at least once. It's an experience!

We ordered delivery of sev puri and misal. Generally, food tasted good but price is higher than what may be reasonable. There are a few issues for the restaurant to SERIOUSLY address:
1) Sev puri, for the price, can have at least 2 more pieces.
2) We ordered medium spicy misal but the spicy version was sent. While we can handle quite a bit of spice, this level of hot is insane. Dial it down a bit so that people can actually taste the rest of the dish. Alternatively, offer MILD AND MEDIUM in reality. Don't ask for spice level and then substitute with this crazy hot.
3) Offer the possibility of extra pav!
More reasonable ratings would be 3.5 stars overall and 3.5 stars for the food (the ratings shown are because half stars are not possible).

Amazing and authentic Mumbai flavors makes Bombaywala a must try! Lasooni paneer was incredible and tasted just as in India. The decor was all done by the owner and perfectly adds to the theme and vibe of the place. Will come again!

Dry Paneer Chili need major improvement.
It had 95% paneer 4% capsicum and 1 % gravy/masala.
Having just HUGE STONE HARD paneer pieces is like torture to the consumer. Owners have taken the word 'Dry' in literal sense. Gravy/masala is nothing but just plain tomato puree.

Could have made it in much better way.

If the owners are serious about money spent by the customer and their satisfaction, here's Customer's suggestion to make it true to the Bombay taste....

Paneer should be cut in the shapes similar to those of fries. Thinner long finger-like pieces. The thinner shape will allow planeer to cook better. Ratio of Paneer, Capsicum and masala should be 60%-30%-10%. There must be more gravy/masala in the dish.
Most importantly, typical Paneer Chili, all over in Bombay is prepared with chinese style gravy with slitted hot green chillies (this spices up the taste) and NOT in plain tomato puree.
Finally the dish should be garnished by sprinkling coriander all over.

The server was moving around and taking order with sad, unpleasant face as if is being underpaid or being forced to work against his will. Not at all acceptable for a job in hospitality business.

So overall, otherwise things were okay but for the HEFTY PRICE they are charging, such flaws are not welcomed and hence gave two star rating.

Better than ever! Don't know how they don't have a higher overall rating.

I am not Indian, so I cannot attest to the authenticity of the food. But I do know delicious food, and everything we tried was very good and obviously prepared and presented with care. The service was very friendly and the interior was clean and whimsical. I am definitely going back to try the other menu items. One thing I would suggest is a menu that has a description of the items along with a photo because I had a hard time knowing what i wanted to order.

I ordered indo chineese - hakka noodles and paneer chilly, the noodles had such a burnt taste, i felt nauseous, they made it again it still felt the same. I told about this to owner and they were being arrogant about it. We left the food but still we were charged for the food. The owner just wants to feed any garbage to the customers and wants them to be happy. Super money minded and rude.

Will never go to this place to be sick again. Hate the food hate the owner and service. Not at all worth the money, many better options available.
