THE FIRST EMPIRE

They talk about American people and make you feel uncomfortable. Most of the time the workers are sitting in there getting drunk and playing cards. They make up prices as they go along, depending on if your American or not, or if they like you. The worst customer service I ever had in my life. The place is filthy, I don't know how they passed health inspection they must have paid the inspectors off. The place is ran by a bunch of alcoholic that look over worked and under paid. It looks like they don't wash there hands after using the bathroom.

Ordered food via Uber eats. I should’ve known better because great Jamaican food is hard to come by in Jersey. This food was awful !!! As a Jamaican person I am shame that this establishment is really selling this type of food. The Oxtail were fatty and uncooked. The food has no taste just damn nasty !! This is not Jamaican rice and peas!! This place deserves zero stars.

I’m not gonna lie, whoever says this foodIs good doesn’t know good Jamaican food. The jerk chicken is not jerk at all, the oxtail had a funny taste as did the rice and peas which were flavorless. Food didn’t taste fresh at all.. I highly doubt they’d pass a state inspection. They were nice and are likely getting by because the locals don’t know any better.

I love this small gem because the food is delicious! The oxtails is my go to order but I have also had the bbq and jerk chicken. The favors of everything here I have ordered is what you would expect from an authentic Jamaican restaurant. Only thing that could improve is the interior. This is definitely a take out place not an atmosphere that invites you to dine in.

I haven’t actually walked into this establishment myself yet however we have ordered here several times and was picked up by my wife. She raves about how welcoming and accommodating the owner was. I ordered the stew beef which was amazing, I haven’t been able to ordered it again as I understand they rarely make it. I also ordered the curry goat which was pretty good too and the oxtail were amazing and had big chunks. I would definitely recommend this place and plan on visiting myself soon. By the way, their beef patties are great too.

The restaurant experience wasn’t welcoming. Upon arrival, we weren’t acknowledged immediately and waited about 15-20 min for our order to be taken. There wasn’t a published displaying prices so we relied totally on the server. We ordered oxtails, white rice (server went into back/kitchen area to get some cold rice and warmed it in microwave) and steam veggies all of which tasted horrible. The oxtails wasn’t seasoned properly and overall wasn’t worth the price of $22. We ordered Escovitch fish, rice, collard greens and steam veggies. The fish portion was very small and extremely dry, the rice and peas were over cooked and lacked coconut milk and the overall authenticity of Jamaican flavored food. The jerk chicken was oven baked and also lacked true Jamaican jerk seasoning and flavor.
The food isn’t fresh; the food is microwaved after plated by the server in aluminum pans.
Overall the food was bland and not good. We were not informed the cost of each plate and only given the total balance of the order. We paid approximately $60 for 3 plates of distasteful food. The rating should be “0” for this restaurant experience; 1 star is too generous. I do not recommend this place for authentic Jamaican food. It’s a waste of your time and money.
