Mamajuana Café Plainfield

They all day brunch specials on Sunday are so lively! People come in looking for a good time and good food and you definitely get that. The day I went, it was buffet style and all the food was hot and constantly being changed. And the bottomless mimosas in rum punch were definitely the highlight! Music was always good and at 4 o’clock in the afternoon people are bumping to music like it’s the club. Definitely meant for a group of friends or for a more action pack night plan.

So me and my family a party of 5 adults 2 children came to mamajuana in plainfield on 8/20 around 4pm to be exact we got seated right away. We asked our waiter about a happy hour menu being that its advertised on the site and social media. The waiter didnt understand i guess it was a language barrier so he went to get someone else and that person told us there is only happy hour for food and honest shouldve got up and left from there but we stayed so the second waiter became confused and went to get someone else and that person told us they dont have happy hour but they do have a buy one get one for lemon drops okay whatever we order our drinks two lemon drops, one blossom lychee, one rivers breeze, and one picante passion and immediately after we order food two oxtail meals with white rice, one stuffed salmon with a side of beans, one shrimp penne pasta, one red snapper, one chicken and fries, one calamari and two mozzarella sticks. We waited 40 minutes for drinks. Waitress bring over the the drinks and the two lemon drops tasted like soda and they were red so my sister asked if they were flavored and he replied yes which was a red flag because we didnt order that. So we sent that back then she ordered prosecco and st germain which is one drink its made together its not a drink you make separately right remember that for the end when we received out bill. Now the food is here at 5:08pm and here is where the shenanigans really began so the two oxtails came out with regular rice instead of white which is what was requested, the shrimp penne pasta was in fact shrimp penne vodka which is a different sauce not what was ordered and the two appetizers mozzarella sticks and calamari was the very last things to come out and the calamari was completely hard and we had to send that back which left my daughter only with mozzarella sticks and the wait time was so long to just receive drinks we didnt want to wait longer for more food so i shared my pasta with her. Now the bill come and they charged us $347 and prosecco and st germain was charged as $26 for ONE glass i know you lying we been to mama jauna before the west ny location to be exact and we never paid that for prosecco and st germ. The service here was horrible i would never recommend this location to anyone and it was maybe 6 customers inside the restaurant beside us. The waitress was upset and rolling his eyes and snatched the bill from my sister hand and we just wanted to get out of there cause it was giving very much racism in there we were the only African American people inside the restaurant as well and when we requested to speak to a manager no one ever came over to assist with the issues we were experiencing so yes I decided to make a reviee based off what me and my family experienced and the day started off a good day we had just came from wedding dress shopping at Seng Couture in north plainfield and had an amazing time only to come to mamajauan and waste $347 what a joke of a place 0/10

The experience at this location was subpar. We all traveled from all over NJ to attend. The bartender ignored me and kept doing what he was doing twice. The birthday girl was told the cost was $55 each. When we arrived we were told there was an additional cost for tax and gratuity and everyone had to kick out more cash. The host never gave us the change. It was a mess as far as service. We had to look for our server for everything. I even had to ask the server for the birthday drink for the birthday girl. I felt like I was at work! The mimosas gave me a terrible headache, but the food was good. Probably won’t return.

Today me and my best visited here during brunch. Before arriving we saw 2 different ads one saying $45 unlimited brunch/drinks and the other stating $55. However when we arrived things were totally different. We were told it was $70 per person. We than said what if we just wanted to drink the waitress said we had to do brunch there was no way around it. At this point it was no turning back because we already drove 40 minutes to get there. We asked to be seated outside by 2 different waitress they told us outside was all reserved. Upon being seating the waitress who took our drink order started a convo with us and we express to her how we wish we could sit outside she goes why cant you? We were lost because from our understanding it was all reserved. She kindly said i have a table for you guys right outside. To me is paying $70 worth it not really food options are limit from the buffet drinks aren't strong you need at least 10. The first dj was great and the outside vibe was good as well.

The place is pretty bland, but my friends and I had a phenomenal time! Our group did have to bargain to get them to open the windows for the music to come inside because they treat the DJ area like a sectioned club/lounge…the hosts asked us to stay an additional hour cause we were so much fun! After our reservation finished? Crickets and dry energy. Bring a good group and it’ll be enjoyable. Also, don’t be surprised if you see younger kids in there during brunch.

Extremely horrible service at the bar. Bartenders ignored us and focused on bottle service. Rude with horrible customer service and bad attitude. Music extremely loud and it was after brunch.
