If you are looking for an exclusive, kick-back evening of dining with a great variety of food to choose from the menu, you need to get in your car, on your bicycle or just walk to Capt'n Ed's Place in Point Pleasant, NJ. My husband and I drove from Riverside, NJ and had the pleasure of dining there and we will never forget the dining experience. You can bet your sea dollar we will be back.

I was devisistated to go to Captain Eds Saturday night to find out its closed and for sale. My husband and I would make a weekend trip from upstate NY with a dinner date the highlight. Hope all is well with the family.

This place is an adventure. If you plan on going experiement and cook your own food! They will provide a hot stone where you can actually cook your own meat at your table. Kids will enjoy the experience. There is plenty of meat choices on the menu. I would recommend the seafood. (It is called Capt'n Ed's!). The service was responsive. At times the place may get a little smokey because of all the people who may be cooking their own food at their table. Try it out. Worth the visit.

My Wife and i decided to go to this restaurant and have dinner. Waitress brings the salad over i start to eat it. Go to eat more of the salad and there is a hair in it. Waitress brings out the lobster bisque i ordered, Start to eat the soup and i discover hair in that also. Call the waitress over and showed her the piece of hair from the soup. Stood up and told here i was out of there. Never again will i go to this restaurant.

Okay place with pretty good food. Fish is good but New England clam chowder was thin. I read other reviews about cranky service, but I didn't experience this. Rustic inside is okay but old string lights need replace and they should either get satellite radio or tune the one that's blaring. I would go back. No American Express and some price differences between menu and Internet.

Been here many many times. Most of the seafood here is very good but stick to seafood. Haven't felt a need to write a review until now. Of course I had a bad experience, hence why its time to review. We were seated by the hostess promptly and given menus. We sat for 15 minutes before our server even acknowledged us. She is new and it was busy so we just waited. After 5 more minutes, she promised she would be with us as soon as she helped another table who was waiting for something. In the mean time, a food runner noticed our long wait and offered to get our drinks. Finally our server came over and said she's got out dessert. With that, we accepted and let the whole wait thing go. We waited another 10 minutes for the salads. We ordered an appetizer and after a while, she said she is sorry but the app will be out with our dinner. Now, to the big problem. I ordered steak with fried shrimp. I carved up my 10 ounce steak into probably 15 pieces before finding meat. Even those pieces had rubbery fat in them. My girlfriend looked at me and my steak and said let me see. She started to disect it further and she couldn't find any edible meat either. I ate the shrimp and that was very good. The steak just laid there in its sad pile of stringy fat. I let the person who appeared to be the manager know of my dissatisfaction about the steak and she said she will talk to her boss. "He will probably take it off". She did offer something else and I said no thats ok. The bill comes out and surprise! $26 for my shrimp and fat. I let the manager know and she said, "I told him" and shrugged her shoulders. What crap is that? Pissed me off to say the least. If I knew I was paying for the whole plate I would have asked for steak after steak until one had meat.

Walked in not knowing this place after visiting Point Pleasant for the day...Decor is old...wood paneling with cheap strings of lights around the room...tables all have fish themed vinyl table cloths...Floor was sticky...we gave it the benefit of the doubt...we ordered fried calamari and mussels for an appetizer...Fried calamari was pretty good except the sauce tasted old and burnt....Mussels were fishy, fleshy and the marinara sauce was more like watered down red sauce with stewed tomatoes...Bread basket was two cold rolls...I ordered the Captains Feast...Which consisted of a cluster of Alaskan crab legs, broiled shrimp, broiled scallops, stuffed shrimp with crab imperial, and grouper...I asked if i can get no grouper and add extra steamed shrimp instead...Waitress, (who was very friendly...that is when she did make an appearance), said it was fine...Okay, crab legs were decent...scallops had no flavor and were rubbery...Shrimp was DRY and no flavor...Stuffed shrimp had something on top of it, but I couldn't make it out other than it was GROSS!...My extra shrimp instead of the grouper, were 2...The size of everything on the plate was TINY....Also, sides were salad and choice of fries, baked potato or mashed...no veggies... Bottom line is the food was overcooked, fishy, no flavor, and just plain not good...You bee the judge of it from the picture I took (minus the crab legs, which was the only edible food)...BTW, my meal cost $29.95!!!...Not even worth half that amount!!...Red Lobster is a 5 star restaurant compared to this food...PS...Hostess is also very nice...I'm giving 3 stars only because crab legs were good and waitress and hostess were friendly...Otherwise, it would get one

I really want to like this place. Its a local, old school jersey shore steak and fish restaurant with a neat gimmick (the the option to have steak and fish cooked on a stone at your table). And the food is pretty good. The problem I have is that this one these places with cranky old servers that think they are doing you a favor to wait on you. It just ruins the experience. A shame because I want to support these types of places.

We have been wanting to have dinner here for years. We pass it all the time and it looked like an Old fashioned seafood restaurant by the shore. The place was so cold. We had to move 3 times to find a comfortable area to enjoy our meal. had a coats on the whole time. granted it is Jan. but put the heat on for heavens sake. Ordered a capt. combo, scallops, steak, shrimp and crab. Steak was cold. mashed potatoes were tasty but ice cold as well. the steak was tough with a lot of fat. The Spinach side was really the only thing I enjoyed but wished I didn't have to pay extra for it. It should have came with the meal as the prices were on the steep side. My husband wasn't happy with his steak either. There were many complaints at other tables as well while we were there. One customer sent her prime rib back and another complained his steak was also cold so it wasn't just us. I have to say I don't think we'll ever go back. The waitresses were very nice though. No complaints there .

Went here on a Monday night for the all you can eat crab legs. Food was great!! Service was poor along with the food time considering we were the only people in there.

Went to Capt Eds as a date night with the wife. No kids for a change. Had the delmonico and shrimp on the stone and the wife had the filet. As always, service was good and food was fresh. Had the boneless buffalo wing appetizer which was perfectly spicy. House salad was also good. BYOB with a nice Zinfandel. Only issue was the baked potato could have cooked another five minutes. Will definitely go back.

We are locals to the Point Pleasant area, and decided to go to Capt'n Ed's last night after driving past it thousands of times out to the beach. I wish I could say it was a positive experience. The only good things about our experience at this place were the fact that it was BYOB and the steak. When we entered the restaurant, we stood around for a while by the hostess stand, wondering if we seat ourselves (it was rather empty). Finally, the hostess (nope, surprise! she was actually a waitress) came over. She seemed flustered and anxious as she went off to find us a table (in the near-empty restaurant). A few minutes later, she sat us near the window -- also right next to the only table with people. Hmm, okay. Turned out to be kinda worth it, because when their food came out, we got to savor the amazing smells of their sizzling steaks for the next 10 minutes, which is how long it took the waitress who seated us to come back to our table to ask if we wanted appetizers. Um, first, how about some water and wine glasses for the bottle I brought, sitting unopened on the table, while we look over the menu. We also asked if we could have an ice bucket of sorts we could use to store my husband's second, unopened beer bottle. Another 5 minutes later, she returned with one water (which did not taste very good) and one wine glass, no ice bucket. Another 10 minutes later, she returned to ask again if we wanted any appetizers. I asked if tables got a bread basket -- "Yes, it comes out with the entrée" (why?) -- well, if we could have it sooner to nosh on, that'd be great, in which case we wouldn't need an appetizer. Fifteen minutes later, she returned with the bread (mind you - we are still one of two parties in the restaurant, the other had been served and was enjoying their meals) - some white bread and pumpernickel. Not many restaurants offer pumpernickel, so I jumped at the chance. Woohoo! Except it was too stale to eat. Blah. She returned another 10 minutes later to take our orders -- 2 of their 8 oz. filet mignons, which, she told us, came with salad and a choice of baked potato, fries, or linguini. I asked if I could sub out the potato for a vegetable, but was told it would be an extra $5+ charge. Oh, and they were out of broccoli (?) so the only choices were spinach or asparagus. I went with the latter, and asked for my salad dressing on the side. Too bad - don't care. Dressing came on the salad of iceberg lettuce and mandarin oranges (meh). I regret eating it, because when, towards the end of our meal, she brought out salads for the newly seated table of 5 next to us - more like on top of us (in the otherwise empty restaurant... grumble...) I noticed she had stacked the salad plates on top of one another, so that the bottom of every plate was resting on the lettuce of the salad beneath it. Disgusting. She didn't bother to clear away our salad dishes before bringing out the steaks, which made things on the table rather cluttered. And when she returned with my $5+ plate of asparagus, I was very disappointed. The asparagus had poor color, were rather undercooked, and were resting in a freaking pool of melted butter. I didn't order vegetables to have the healthiness completely counteracted by a crazy butter bath that wasn't mentioned at all by the waitress or in the menu. Fail. Now... here, I will say that the steaks were DELICIOUS. I asked for medium but it was more or less medium-well. Not an ounce of fat on it, which meant pretty much the *entire* 8 ounces were edible, and scrumptious. At $23 per steak, that's not a bad price for an awesome filet. Waitress didn't come back to check on us at all (not something that usually bothers me, just something I find kind of unprofessional) -- in fact, the next time she came back, she started to take my plate away, without asking, while I still had a sizable hunk of meat. Not cool. Ask. I am paying for this. The night of disappointments wasn't entirely the waitress's fault. Capt'n Ed's is really a chicken

We had been looking forward to dinner out at this popular local establishment. Neither my husband nor I were impressed with the service or atmosphere, and the food was ok. Our server, an older woman (she never introduced herself), came over to our table after we were sitting for several minutes and asked what we wanted to order. As first timers we had some questions about the menu - she seemed slightly annoyed about answering. We had to flag down another server to get silverware. We had to request water, which was never refilled. The dining room is small however she didn't really ever come check on us, and we had to wait over ten minutes to get our check so we could leave. Atmosphere- the dining room is small so I understand noise carries. And we weren't expecting it to be quiet, however there was a large party (maybe 12 adults) eating dinner and one man was SO loud that his voice filled the entire room - for the entire time we were there. It was obnoxious, rude and annoying. I understand this isn't the wait staffs' problem, but it contributed to our less than stellar experience. Food- French onion soup and seafood bisque were good. We chose to have the kitchen cook our steaks instead of ordering their famous steak on a stone. Side note- I don't understand why it's more expensive to cook the steak myself at the table. Steaks were cooked nicely- no complaints there. The sides were just ok. We thought the bread was good. The menu prices are fair- we felt we received a nice steak for the money. We won't be rushing back anytime soon- too many other local places to frequent with better service, atmosphere and food.

I really enjoy this place. I have never had a bad meal. The decor is so cute inside. BYOB is always a plus too.
