I admire this restaurant! They offer superb food, their menu is varied, The chief cook in that restaurant is an expert, I enjoy a lot eating all their dishes. The dishes are always fresh and tasty, the attitude towards the visitors is friendly. I go often to this restaurant and I was never unhappy. I recommend it with no hesitation.

Food looks good. Staff put on gloves only after they notice you are watching them make your sandwich with bare hands. Extra E. coli please!

Expensive but healthy.

This place is owned by the same people who own Osteria Procaccini, so they have some of the same pizzas. One of my all-time favorite pizzas is the Tartufo. It is made with sausage, mushroom, mozzarella cheese, and white truffle oil. The flavors work really well together. The pizza crust is exceptionally thin here, but not as good as Nomad's crust. The toppings cannot be beat.

This place is owned by same owners of Osteria Procaccini in Kingston, NJ. Their brick oven pizza is as good as the ones in Kingston. I love their Margherita pizza, the crust is so thin, tomato sauce is just seasoned right with fresh mozzarella and fresh basil topping. Their isn't much seating, but could order and seat at the crepe place right next door which is also owned by same people. My daughter tried Italiano sandwich and she said it was good. This is my favorite pizza in Princeton area.

Best pizza in downtown Princeton for sure. I tried them all. The price is insane though, and unreasonable, but once in a Blue Moon, if I want pizza, this is the place.

The margherita DOC pizza is excellent (I'm not sure I've ever eaten a better one). The pizza is ready in 2 minutes, so it's also perfect for take out.

The food was ok, just ok, i had the Mamma Flora, was rather bland & the potato salad was very salty and way too much mayonaise. The tomatoes on the sandwich were bland hothouse tomatoes that were gritty. The man that took my order seemed like he could care less about the customers. Not sure what his role is in this organization, but he should be no where near the customers. I asked him if he was the owner, he said "no" then turned around and walked into the kitchen..... hmmm maybe i had a concern? - he didnt care. This same man watched a woman fall by the door, off a very dangerous 3 inch step, she hit the tile floor quite hard, and the man saw her then disappeared into the back. The guy had no concern for this customer and that she fell quite hard in his store. Oh yeah, back to my concern, I was going to alert him that the railing in the entry was not properly bolted to the floor, and that if leaned on it would tip right over.... though he disappeared, I did tell another employee there who seemed genuinely thankful for me pointing this out and that he would report it to his boss. This same employee was concerned for the woman who fell, though he came out of the back to help her , when the man taking the orders disappeared. I was there on 3/28/16 around 1p.m., the man who really should be in a different position was caucassian maybe in his 50's. I would suggest finding another position for this man, as i know, i will never step in this place again after seeing how this man dealt with the situation at hand, plus he just seemed put off to even take my order. I read in another review that "Comment from Tino P. of Porta Via", that he states that they do not have a bathroom in the restaurant? is that possible? this concerns me, are the employees urinating in the alley? The step by the door is very dangerous, the entry railing / seating area is not bolted to the floor & there is no bathroom- seems like Princetons Health and Safety inspections team let this place slide through..... UPDATE: 3/29/16 I will add to this review to address your comments to my original review. Why didnt I return the food? Well to start the man taking the orders was too worried about the temperature in the kitchen to attentively address the orders of the patrons. I first ordered the Bisteca Sandwich, then waited about 8 minutes, only to have your team leader come out from the back to tell me you are all out of that... Since i am on my lunch break I really didnt have time to wait for another sandwich. The tomato was NOT dirty, thats not what i was saying. The fleshy inside of the tomato had a gritty consistency, it really doesnt matter where its from. This does not mean that the step is not dangerous! Your team leader even said to me that you need to get the step addressed as many people have tripped and fell on that step. This is not being made up, if you are reading this, please go in there and see for yourself, dont take my word go in and see. Like i said above, go in and see yourself... it is very easy to over see the "Bright Orange" warning that is on the floor. Also your safety rail is not properly bolted in. Nope not a writer of fiction, just a concerned patron. And yes like you many people do love my humor. Thats great that you now have a place for your employees to actually go to the bathroom. You should be proud. I believe the woman who fell has already taken this step. She left totally fine huh, shows how in touch with your customers you are. The woman who fell waited outside for me to get my contact information, because she was obviously not ok, and the way you handled the situation was appalling. Mind you your team leader was concerned, he seems to truly care about your business, he is a real asset. How did i make a big deal, i asked the one man there if he was the owner, is that making a big deal. I think Watching a 60+ yr old woman fall, pretty hard is a big deal, obviously you dont. What uproar did i cause? Please elaborate,

Great new place downtown! Or, I'm not sure if it's new, but I live in Chicago now and don't get to come to my hometown that often. They have flatbreads, cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, and salads. I believe everything comes with a side. I think the prices are pretty reasonable - ranging from $7-$11. I can't remember the actual name of what I got but it was a hot sandwich with breaded eggplant and mozzarella. Basically it was an eggplant parmigiana in a sandwich. It tasted very good and I could tell the ingredients were fresh but I dislike when the skin on the eggplant is tough to eat. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be made or if that is just a personal issue. I had a lentil soup on the side and that was yummy. It was peppery with a taste of tomato. There is no restroom here, which is odd to me, considering that this is a food establishment. The employees are very nice and the service is super quick. They really follow through on their all natural and organic with their eco-friendly plates and utensils.

Porta Via is another one of those places in Princeton that is bringing new flavor and style to the town. It's a small deli style place that serves fresh salads, sandwiches and soups that are all delicious. All of the ingredients in their food are high quality and the dishes themselves are done very well. Their salad with walnuts, grilled chicken, apples and dressing is excellent. They also have many delicious side dishes are also of high quality. When you eat the food from Porta Via, it just feels like you're consuming food that was freshly prepared and not sitting around for two days. It's no Olives by any stretch, but it's a great alternative if you're looking for a fresh sandwich or a salad. There's also a small amount of seating, which is a plus. Again, I think this place is a great addition to the Princeton food scene. It can be a nice sit down lunch, or a quick to go deli. Either way, you're guaranteed fresh and tasty food with good service.

Agree with other reviewer, ridiculously overpriced. We did some sort of "design your own" sandwich with just tomatoes and mozzarella for our 3 year old because he wouldn't eat many of the ingredients and they charged us more than their sandwich with mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, etc. Also, our kid was being potty trained and they wouldn't let us use the bathroom and the kid had to pee in the alley in the rain. Some might say that's our fault for leaving the house with a child at all, but...

Food is decent, but for a specialty Italian sandwich shop they had a disappointing variety. Even the classics, (chicken parm etc), were bland and bready without offering the ingredient quality or complex flavors I would have expected from such an exciting new restaurant

The gianluca sandwich with fresh prosciutto and mozz was delicious on ciabatta. Good side options and dangerously good looking gelato also

Bumped up to 3.5 stars The hot sandwiches appear to be better than the cold sandwiches. My Pollo Griglio was much better than my previous Mamma Flora. Also, recommend the focaccia bread, which was nice and soft and flavorful. The seven grain is really rough and actually scrapes the roof of my mouth. The sandwiches are always really huge, overflowing with stuff inside, and the flavors can occasionally be overwhelming. I think it worked well with the Pollo Griglio, though it was a bit hard to get the entire sandwich in my mouth sometimes. It didn't work so well with the Mamma Flora / cold sandwiches, especially the jarring addition of the balsamic. The mixed greens are a nice complement to the sandwiches. I like the salads at Osteria Procacini so I'd be interested in trying them here too. They've added flatbreads to the menu that look interesting. I'll have to come back and try!

Porta Via is a small cozy restaurant. We had vegetarian pizza for lunch. It was delicious. Good for quick stopover.
