Every neighborhood needs a good breakfast spot, and Java Day seems to be the one in Ridgefield Park. My husband and I were going for a walk in the area when the hunger pangs hit. We stepped in here quite randomly but felt affirmed we'd made the right choice when we saw how many passersby were also stopping in for their mid-morning bites.

Inside, this is a tight but cozy space. The counter and bagel/pastry display take up roughly half the space, with a modest number of tables and seats along the other side. We placed our order at the counter and watched from our seats as workers busily got to work at preparing and assembling sandwiches with the well-trained efficiency of a New York City bodega counter. We had no complaints about our sausage, egg, and ketchup order; in fact, I was happily surprised at how piquant and uniquely spicy the sausage was, moreso than a standard sausage patty.

Something I discovered was that the printed menus don't reflect the food and drinks available at this location. I found this out when I tried to order a fresh pressed juice that I saw on the menu, and the person behind the counter explained (with apologies) that these menus were actually for their other Teaneck location.

Most customers seemed to be coming for quick bagel or breakfast sandwich orders, but their menu seems to boast some diner-like brunch items, for which we'll certainly be returning. Java Cafe is along the one busy Main Street that runs through Ridgefield Park. There's paid street parking, but there's more parking along the residential side streets if you're willing to go for a little walk.

Asked for a whole wheat bagel and they gave me toast with cream cheese. Maybe the order wasn’t understood, but why in the world I order toast with cream cheese from a bagel shop. They charged me $4… for toast with cream cheese.

One of best bagel place in Ridgefield Park .. I gave them 4 stars because they don’t follow customers instructions in orders, I just asked for a bagel with egg and cheese and some salt and pepper, I asked them twice to make sure they added salt and pepper in the bagel and they all said yes we did. After I left I found the bagel doesn’t have any salt and pepper. I was the only customer in the store then btw!

Java Day is mom and pop breakfast restaurant that local residents of Ridgefield Park go to. Their service and attention to detail is remarkable. They have vegan and vegetarian options. I typically go to this restaurant at least two or three times a month for their delicious chicken BLT sandwich.

Would I go again? Yes.
Do I recommend it? Yes

Positives: food, service, and staff
Cons: They should have outdoor seating behind the restaurant, that would be really nice.

Parking: There's only street parking.
