Don’t get me wrong, I think River Edge Diner as a whole is good (I’ve been there for breakfast). However, I recently tried their Oreo Cake and was heavily disappointed.
Instead of a sweet, creamy bite, I was greeted by a punch of chemical taste (which I presume was either alcohol or unidentifiable ingredient) followed by a horrible, expired aftertaste. Though I know there are certain cakes that are complemented well by alcohol, this was not one of them. I think it would have been nice to know if they used alcohol (which I can be wrong, but then I wouldn’t know how to make sense of the pungent chemical taste).
Their other desserts looked delicious, but I don’t know if I can bring myself to try the other desserts after this initial bad experience.
If possible, I would give a 0/5 for just the Oreo Cake.

My western omelette was not edible. I can’t help be think how old the eggs, ham, onions and jalapeños were from the back of house refrigerator. Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, comes to mind. My wife and I pay decent money to live in River Edge, I expect the food at most restaurants in this neighborhood of Bergen County to provide their patrons with fresh food.

My nephew chose this diner to have a birthday breakfast with his mother & I. . . Let me tell you, the food was really yummy. There was not one thing at our table that I did not enjoy.
The diner itself is really one of the nicest looking ones I've been to in a very long time. Usually, diners are freezing, but this one the climate was comfortable. The bathroom was clean & fresh too. I normally do not use a bathroom outside of my own, but this one felt safe enough.
The atmosphere was your typical diner setting. The staff was iffy. I didn't get that welcoming diner staff vibe that most diners have. The girl that seated us wasn't rude or anything, but she definitely wasn't feeling her job. It was obvious (she wasn't the only one). What I did like was that our waiter didn't come to our table 50x to check on us.
The prices outside of the breakfast menu, were a bit steep for a diner. I overlooked the prices due to the amount of food they brought out.
When you go here, don't expect 10% to be one of the tip options.
With all this being said, would I go back? I would.
**Just a tip to the owner: The hospitality of the employees should be all smiles, with a warm & welcoming vibe. Especially, the ones greeting & seating you.
this medium ground-beef was completely raw, the medium-well burger was also nearly raw, i feel bad for leaving such a poor review, the staff was very kind, but you just can't serve raw meat like this . also, i've seen rude replies to honest reviews which i simply cannot stand for, i hope the management of this restaurant understands that maintaining a positive relationship with customers is what makes or breaks a restaurant . please do better in the future

I ordered eggs over easy with home fries and corned beef hash. It waa excellent. The eggs were perfectly cooked with a nice runny yolk, yet no under cooked white. The corned beef and home fries had a perfect amount of crispness.

Actually the food is very delicious and the atmosphere is also very nice. But the service and staff are very rude. They put the bill in front of you while your plate is full before you finish your meal. They offer to give you a container even though you say you are continuing to eat. I am not sure if I will go again
