Benihana never disappoints! The food is always good and the service is just as good. Always a great experience dining here. Only one comment is that they stopped the ice cream service for lunch which is very sad.

Had a reservation at 4:30 and at 5 we still had no server come to the table. Had to ask a manager when we would be getting a server. It's hard to miss 7 people sitting in a near empty dining room. And, again upon receiving a server, we waited another 15 minutes before having to ask a manager again if there was a wait on chefs. A lot of my party works in the service industry and there's absolutely no reason why a reservation at 4:30 shouldn't be having food prepared until 5:30- it would never fly where we work. Our server was very nice and attentive, but the restaurant as whole seemed to lack a sense of urgency.

Been going to this place for 40+ years. Even did “Chef for the Day” for my birthday about 10 years ago. Always fun (even without the kids)! Last night, our server did not enter into the order the note that my daughter has a gluten allergy. Luckily, my daughter noticed the chef preparing her entree with an ingredient containing gluten, so an emergency was avoided, as they prepared another order separately for her. Otherwise, everything was great. Looking forward to going back!

I had a wonderful experience of Benihana at Portland, so booked again and this time with family. It took an hour and 15 minutes before food was brought to the table, The chef was struggling, food quality was abysmal. I wont recommend anyone to go there

Had a fun delicious meal. Kelly was a great, attentive waitress & Raphael was a terrific chef. My granddaughter had a great time, & so did we.

The hostess was welcoming and helpful in explaining the new Rewards program, the server was professional, and the chef was fun. The food was tasty overall, with the exception of the soup which was salty & the calamari overfried. Aside from that, the scallops & shrimp were perfectly grilled, and the veggies were nicely sautéed.

Very hot inside. Bill was incorrect. I was charged for drinks we never ordered. The calamari app was not edible and $17.50. Things have changed at this restaurant. It used to be a fun night out, but it has gone downhill. We will not be back

We went to Benihana Short Hills for dinner last night to celebrate my 7 year old son's birthday. I think it was the worst restaurant experience that I can remember. The service was absolutely abysmal, the food was mediocre, portions were small, and prices were crazy. After waiting at least 30 minutes to be seated (despite having a reservation), we were randomly seated with a vegan family. We waited and waited to order, then waited probably another hour for the chef to finally show up at the grill. He arrived and started cooking, but then the vegan family we were seated with insisted that their food get cooked first, even after my husband's chicken was put on the grill. So the chef finished cooking just my husband's chicken, then scrubbed the grill, cooked this family's meal, and only after all their food was done did the chef even begin to cook my 7, 4, and 1 year old's food and my food. They were so hungry I had to give them snacks. And then when the food was finally ready my 7 year old didn't even want it anymore, so I asked to bring it home. While we were singing happy birthday to him, someone quickly took his plate of untouched food and stacked it with the other family's dirty plates. When I said hey, I had asked to bring that home, she tried to hand the now dirty plate of food back to me. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing meal and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Food quality, service level and ambiance does not match price. My steak was put on the grill in a frozen state. Most seafood came off the grill burnt. Our chef was not entertaining and could not remember special requests. The bar is so slow, you can't possibly get more than one drink during your meal. This place has officially fallen completely off the rails.

We had a reservation for 7:45. They clearly overbooked themselves. We were not seated till around 8:20. Our cook didn't start cooking until 9pm. Drinks soup salad took a long time to arrive. Your prices went up and portions way down! I ordered filet mignon. It didn't even come out as a whole steak. It was pre cubed in a bag according to our chef. I was served one slice of zucchini. Some onions and mushrooms with my steak a small amount. Hibachi is known to have large portions and this was far from it. I was very surprised at the poor overall experience.

Worse experience with Chef Charlie. He slammed the rice tray on the table because he was upset that the order on the receipt was incorrect — and he did this right in front of a manager. His aggressive behavior scared the four children at our table, as well as some of the adults. This behavior is completely unacceptable. This is actually my second bad experience with Chef Charlie at this same location (the last one was a few years ago). In my opinion, he should NOT be allowed to interact with customers. Throughout the night, he was visibly irritated and kept going back and forth with the guests — even accusing them of screaming at him, which absolutely did not happen. We were all looking at each other, confused and very nervous. It was not a fun experience, and honestly, I lost my appetite. Chef Charlie is extremely unprofessional and nasty. I am a regular at Benihana and have always had wonderful experiences — except with him. He is the only chef I've ever encountered there with such unacceptable behavior.

Sadly the chef used way too much butter compared to most of the times we usually go. Very little entertainment value compared to normal. On the flip side, he was very personable.
