Dolce Gelato & Espresso Bar

Stopped in Dolce on Sunday for a pastry & a coffee... A quaint Cafe indeed with delicious bakery goodies. The staff are friendly, the place is clean and the outdoor seating is great. But... their coffee is at best, absolutely dismal. Horrendous in fact. The regular brew was weak AND bitter. I can only think that their choice in coffee is subpar. (cheap) It is certainly not of any quality. Lavazza, Chico Doro, Stumptown, etc? No, it tastes more like chock full of crap. It's embarrassing for an Italian cafe to serve such swill & pass it off as Coffee. It was such a disappointment.

The young man was an excellent example of great customer service. He spoke English, Italian, and Spanish. He explained how words are supposed to be pronounced in Italian. He let us sample a couple flavors. You could taste how fresh and natural the ingredients used are. The rice balls were cooked to perfection ?

My gelato was actually delicious. I sampled the amaretto and really liked it. However the man told us it was about $5 for a small. I asked if I could mix flavors and he said yes. What he failed to do was inform me that it would be an extra $5 for having 2 flavors rather than giving me half and half for the $5 price. So ended up paying about $10 for amaretto and coconut. Which is even more money than if I had just got a medium.

Rude service from the old man. I sampled two flavors of gelato which I did not like. I asked to try a third and different flavor, upon which the man snarkily replied, “Are you going to try every single flavor here?” I should have just walked out. I bought the third flavor, which was pineapple. It tasted fine, but the pineapple bits tasted like an old rag. Never coming here again.

First time coming here was pretty good, then today I came here again and it was a lot better. First, I tried one of the pastries which was pretty good for the first time coming here. Today, I tried the cassatine sicliene. Personally, the best ? ?. I would definitely come here again on days were I need to get out of the house. Still, best place ever??☕️?

Great portions and nice workers.

I had the pistachio gelato which was really good! I wish it had more pistachio pieces but that's my only complaint haha.

Definitely going to come back here when the weather gets nice.

Delicious gelato and espresso. Italian atmosphere makes it feel similar to actually being there. Jenna served us, she was friendly and very helpful in guiding our gelato selection.

We had two cappuccinos and they were excellent! Lovely staff and it’s so cute inside. Very cosy.

I have been working at Dolce Gelato for about 3 months. I really love this job becauseit's a nice little cozy cafe in a nice location in Somerville;these are the smiles of children who are happy that their parents brought them to a cafe to enjoy gelato;it is the aroma of the best Italian coffee that adults come for...I am very happy for every visitor and try to provide the best service from myself. Sorry for my English, I'm learning it every day, but it's still not enough.Everyone is welcome to visit Dolce Gelato for a cup of coffee with a sandwich or a delicious Italian dessert of your choice!I thank all visitors for their comments on this site and said simply in the face! I'm so sorry Emily DOE that I upset you so much by giving you 4 quarters instead of 1 paper dollar. I didn't have any more singles in the cash register at the time. But I gave you and your friend the correct change. I hope you will come again and I will try to find the change in bills that you like. Thank you for your comment!

I feel bad giving a one star review since the gelato looked good and this is a local business. So I'm going to give this a two star. I went in with my friend just to order hot chocolate. The cost of the hot chocolate was 3.09. My friend gave the lady 5 dollars and 9 cents. My friend gave the exact amount of cents so she can have two dollars even. The counter lady had trouble understanding this and did not understand why my friend gave her 9 cents. Then, when I ordered a hot chocolate, I gave her 20 dollars and 10 cents. I needed 17.01 in change. She initially gave me 20 dollars (a 10 dollar bill and two 5 dollar bills) and several coins as change. She told me to check the change. I gave her back the 5 dollars and the coins because she gave me more money than I gave her originally. I told her that I need two dollars and one cent in order to have 17.01 dollars back. However, she insisted that I need only 16 dollars in change and the change in coins were fine. I asked her if she had any more single bills but she said she didn't. I did not want to make a big fuss over not receiving the exact amount of change, since she is doing her best, but my money is my hard earned work.Basically what I am trying say is the counter lady does not know how change works. Maybe the computer doesn't calculate it for her? I'm not sure.

Really nice little gelato spot. The woman behind the counter was very accommodating and let us sample a few flavors. The persimmon was really interesting. Never had it as a gelato flavor before but it was sweet and delicious. Worth checking out for a quick bite.
