Two amazing people run this place. Excellent food and take out. I recommend the veggie and chicken wrap. My granddaughter gets the French toast and my son gets a variety of things he enjoys.

Housed in a former BBQ joint on the short section of Whitehorse-Hamilton Square Road, between Nottingham Way and Route 33, in Hamilton Square, NJ, Mamma Giacomina is the labor of love of Chef Ben and Mamma Gia, husband and wife. It is beyond question that they know from Italian cuisine, especially in takeout mode. They do all three meals with creativity and gusto. I was there early in the day and breakfast was my destination. So, while I waited for my french toast to be prepared in the back kitchen, I perused the shop to see what else was going on. The refrigerated display teased with large arancini (rice balls), and awesome looking desserts (was that homemade cheesecake?). While Gia and I chatted about their business, and survival in the Age of Covid, I heard sounds of pans on the stove, and then, the wafting aroma of butter heating up and eggs kissing hot steel. Ultimately, she went into the kitchen and returned with my meal packaged and bagged in plastic. I had forgotten to order coffee, but Gia was cool enough to offer it to me gratis. I then noticed the sign that said, " Any size - One price." Another smart marketing move! I arrived to my office intending to eat at my desk. This brings me to the one demerit that must be noted. The aluminum container had been pinched closed and all the condensation had collected within and been absorbed by the bread and bacon, rather than being allowed to escape through venting. The result was delicious french toast that had lost its proper texture and become soggy. Same for the meat, although there was a lot of it that if crisp would have been a grand and generous gesture. Had small holes been punched into the removable top to permit moisture to escape and dry air to enter, the still warm breakfast would have been near perfect and probably too much to finish in one seating. Instead, the extra water in the toast made for a heavier than expected dish that despite great flavor, became too much to consume after the halfway point. The saturation also took up the bread space that should have been dedicated to holding the syrup, resulting in extra sweetener pooling in the bottom of the round pan. A little experimentation to design a simple venting system would save this chemical reaction from happening and preserve the excellence of their menu. Otherwise, Mamma Giacomina has a good thing going on. I will be back to try their chicken francaise.

This past week I had to drive to the Hamilton Board of Education office to pickup a Chromebook for my son. As I was making my way in, I drove by the Aldi, and the sign for Mamma Giacomina's popped into my peripheral vision. Luckily no one was behind me, because I instantly remembered this place has been on my must visit list for far too many months, and took the quick right into the small parking lot faster than is probably advisable. Once inside, the very pleasant woman behind the counter immediately greeted me and invited me to look over the menu. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, no need: I knew I wanted some meatballs. I ordered a small (ha!) meatball parmigiana sandwich and a side of pasta salad. She warned me that it would be 15 minutes as they had to prepare the meatballs, and she was a woman of her word. It took every bit of that estimated quarter hour for the sandwich to appear from the kitchen, but oh was it worth the wait! They were absolutely perfect. Perfectly seared, very little filler and packed with flavor. They were laid out on the 8 inch bun with a generous amount of cheese and the perfect amount of tomato sauce. Those who know me will gladly attest that I have a healthy appetite, and there was absolutely no way I was going to finish this bad boy on my own for lunch. With the addition of the excellent and surprisingly zesty pasta salad, I easily had lunch for two days. The rest of the menu is filled with Italian classics, there is a desert case that looks like it's to die for and delicious-looking breakfast menu left for me to explore. I intend to continue exploring. Soon.

I ordered a few trays this past weekend for a family farewell dinner for my son on Army holiday leave before heading back to base. I knew I wasn’t going to have time to cook for it. 1) They are super nice at Mamma Giacominas 2) The food is absolutely delicious! (Chicken Parm, Eggplant Parm, Vodka Rigatoni) 3) Talking with Benny and mentioning the dinner was for my Army son he insisted on doing something special for him. Just above and beyond and so nice! Will go back often! Thank you for everything!
