So i usually love this place, it’s my go-to when i go down the shore. However last time i ate here, i had not a good experience. I brought some friend who had never been here before, and i was excited to show them this spot.
Our server, Dottie, began coming over to our table more frequently and taking plates away that still had food on them about 25 minutes in. After about 35 minutes, we had finished our meals, paid our bill+tip, and were just finishing our coffee, Dottie came up and say “i have people waiting outside.” As a customer and a regular here, that isn’t my problem that the restaurant has people waiting outside. That’s the establishment’s challenge to figure out, not mine, and to direct this matter towards a customer is not justified. It was rude.
We weren’t even there for a full hour and were told to leave. Maybe the server was having a bad day, but it’s no excuse to push people out the door. I was upset because i spoke well of this place to my company. Now i will absolutely be thinking twice before returning here.

1st time there (10/4/25) My husband loved the sausage gravy w/biscuits (he said its not as good as Mine..lol but its close) I had a skillet with ham,bacom,P&O, cheese potatoes It was VERY good I normally dont like places homefries/potatoes but Mels Place had some good ones. And both grandkids got pancakes and eggs and thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast. The waitress was an older woman and just fantastic.. oh and idk why but the hot coffee was delicious-Good quality coffee!

This is a classic NJ dinner. They serve great omelettes and griddle offerings. They have a fast kitchen. We didn’t try lunch. My kids really loved eating there.

Went here for breakfast based on the positive reviews. Nice atmosphere and service, but the food was a big disappointment. Asked for scrambled eggs soft with cheese — as someone else mentioned it was an egg omelet with cheese melted on top. Asked for soft scramble this was dry. Pancakes were big and heavy not fluffy and tasted a bit salty. Wanted so much to like this place, don’t think I’ll be back.

The place was very clean, which stood out right away. The food was decent nothing to rave about, but not bad either. Service could have been more attentive; I sat at the counter and it took a while before anyone came over. The staff seemed friendlier when it was time to bring the check, so it didn’t feel as warm as I would’ve liked. Still, everyone’s experience is different. I’m not knocking the place, just giving my honest take. I’d go back, but that’s my two cents now you can decide for yourself.
