Great food wonderful atmosphere , and for us lots of great memories. We have been going to Berta’s with our family since we were kids.🤙🤙
Peter is as engaging and knowledgeable as he is talented in the kitchen. I went to Bertas with my grandfather when I was young and found the same comfortable environment and amazing food 30 years later. Great wine list, great quality good, inky wish I lived closer to make it my usual Sunday Italian meal.

Been here about 5 times, food is very consistent and good, but the order is always slightly messed up. For example, yesterday, we never got the ginger ale we ordered or the coke refill or the correct coffee and 2 out of the 4 desserts were wrong.
There is one waiter serving everyone so it was hard to get his attention.

This is a very special place. The nostalgia factor is a huge part of why the experience here is great. You’re transported to the past with an old school dining experience, and a stellar four course menu that leaves nothing more to be desired.
Everything from fresh oysters to clams casino to escargot to soft shell crabs, veal, chicken, liver, fresh fish….. the list is immense and yet everything is always so fresh and delicious. There’s nothing you can order that won’t be prepared wonderfully.
To boot, the Chef and owner cares immensely about serving you the best products possible- he knows where everything comes from and it’s a fun experience when he comes to the table to share the ingredient’s stories.
If you’re into cocktails or wine, you’ll be impressed by the selection here. A lot of Italian gems, and other classic regions are all represented with an emphasis on smaller production wines.
When it comes time for the end of the meal, the list of desserts is just as impressive, with a variety of espresso, coffee, teas and after dinner drinks including aged ports, sherries, and a variety of cordials.
One thing to note- call ahead to let them know you’re coming, as it will give them time to prepare and enhance the experience.

My family had been going there for decades! It has been a very long time since we have gone. We took my mom here tonight for her 90th birthday, and it did not disappoint! The food is delicious, and the service is stellar. This is truly the best hidden gem in NJ.

Quaint place. Nicely decorated. Food excellent and had more than enough to take home. Service was excellent and didn’t rush you. Chef came by and was very friendly. I had the chefs menu which was a 3 course meal with tomatoe soup ,eggplant parm, and dessert. my guest had the 4 course menu with clams casino, pasta, filet, pecan pie. Excellent all around. Definitely would return
Parking: Plenty of parking
Wheelchair accessibility: Had a ramp which helped me a lot since I had a problem going up stairs.

I worked there as a busboy with Peter Berta in circa 1967-1968. Happy to see still successful. Still remember sitting down with the help to eat at the end of the night. Mrs Berta was tough, but always made sure you were fed at the end of the the shift ! It was a first class place. All male staff back in the day.
