I bought quite a few things from this little gem close by the sea. The almond croissants are filled with oozing light sugary almond curd, sandwiched between a traditional croissant, topped with more almond curd and almond slices. It was my favorite of all of the pastries in my opinion. The danishes were of many variety. I bought blueberry and cherry, but there were more. Apricot puffs. Fruit pastries a-plenty! They were all so delicious. I wish I could travel two hours away just to get more. The elephant ears were big and flaky, just how everyone loves them! Irish soda bread for the season! But the star of it all was the chocolate cake that I bought for my birthday. As I made my way in, early morning, I had hoped and prayed that they would have made a chocolate cake that day so I can bring home to my family. I wish I had a picture and I will try to see if I have one, but it was a gorgeous thing! My kids will only eat ice cream cake, but they gobbled down every single crumb and asked for seconds. The cake was perfect and the icing was my favorite part. It is a light buttercream frosting, which I can only describe as a better-cream consistency, but most certain they made Every bit of it in that kitchen from scratch. I absolutely adored this place and I do highly recommend!

Darn, I really wanted to like the croissants; however, they were doughy with no flaky layers. And the almond croissant's filling was liquid versus an almond paste (i.e. marzipan), which is my preference. Maybe a not-so-great baking day? Other than that, all the other pastries looked beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful.

My husband and I worked with Michel and team for our wedding cake. We had a fantastic experience. We were able to communicate via email and scheduled a call with Michel to discuss options/what we were looking for. My MIL and I went to visit in person and had a long sit down with Michel. He was very personable and made us feel comfortable.
We taste tested 3 different flavors of cakes and ended up picking all 3. We were able to get a smaller wedding cake and 1/2 sheet cakes for serving. Every flavor was absolutely delicious. Our favors were take-home desserts, and the cakes were taken immediately! I didn't get a chance to have a slice of my favorite flavor before it was gone and ended up going back to Michel's before leaving Cape May to buy another small cake just to be able to have a few slices! (Pictured below).

I became acquainted with Michel through a mutual friend. His attention to detail in regards to creating a birthday cake for a dear friend was beyond comprehension.
And, not only the artistic design, the cake itself was, with all sincerity, was the best cake I have ever had in my life. I met personally with Chef Michel, and the attention to detail for a 30 pp serving cake equaled to the same as if I was ordering a cake for 300 people.
Michel, with 40 plus years of French pastry/baking expertise is second to none. Finally as well his pastry shop is a gift to Cape May County and frankly all of Southern New Jersey.

What I tried: Their ham and cheese croissant is a perfect blend of flaky pastry and savory filling, making it a must-try. The sticky buns are delightfully gooey and sweet, while the Madelines are light, buttery, and simply divine.
The team at Chez Michel is exceptional. Aylin, Itai, Graham, Roz, and Kasey are all incredibly helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They make every visit a wonderful experience with their warm hospitality and expert recommendations. Highly recommend this bakery for anyone looking for top-notch pastries and outstanding service! ??

Always love coming in here for my sweet treats, especially love the cream puffs! But witnessed the amazing workers getting screamed at by an unfair customer during my visit. I overheard the situation with the customer and the employees handled it with grace and a solution-based mindset. Way better than I would've handled it, they were so rude I def would've been upset LOL! But, my experience was so great nonetheless, the workers were able to brush it off and keep up a great attitude. I'm not even usually the type to leave a review, but had to acknowledge their resilience through a rough situation!

Chez Michel, Your manager, Kasey, left before your bakery closed today. My order that I preordered and paid ahead was wrong when I picked it up today. You didn’t have any more product so I didn’t get my baked items. The salesperson, Eileen, did not know how to issue a credit card refund. Eileen called Kasey for help. Kasey by phone was very rude and dismissive of the fact my 20 minutes to help Eileen and deal with this major error wasn’t major enough for Kasey. Your baked products are delicious however manager and sales person need more training. Very disappointed.
