I absolutely love this place. Nice décor, wonderful staff, quick service. I tried their hot dinner this time and wow this was the best hot dinner I’ve ever had! It came out very hot and they provide huge portions of each part of the dinner and every part was so delicious, I wish I ordered a second dinner. I took out their carrot cake for dessert and that was just as great as the dinner. Super sweet and moist, big size too. Nanny’s never disappoints.

My wife Tara and I stopped here Sunday morning to make reservations for that evening. Tara was looking forward to their Jigs dinner which unfortunately was already sold out. We had dinner there at 6:00 and ordered off the menu. Great meal. They are always so busy so you must be patient, it is definitely worth waiting for. Staff are so friendly, even under pressure. Highly recommend.

Walked into an empty ‘restaurant’ I’m a local on the island in St. John’s, my girlfriend who is brown experienced first hand racism. She cried on the walk back to the car, all she wanted was a home cooked meal vibe. Extremely disappointed in this community as well as the owners for condoning this behaviour. She didn’t even understand why we couldn’t eat there and asked for it to go and they said it depended on what we ordered? They have 8 things on the menu and all of them I could make in 10 minutes. I believe this is a racist establishment. Would not recommend especially with all the other fine restaurants that are far more welcoming near by. Also, I’m unsure why they were so blatant, truly frustrating as someone just trying to show someone the place I call home. (ps i’m white which shouldn’t even matter in today’s age but here we are.)

Ordered cod and cod tongue was cooked to perfection,i ordered the cod tongue witch was good and cooked well but the wifes whole cod fillets stole the show.

We very much enjoyed our dinner at Nanny's Root Cellar Kitchen! I got the fish brewis (first time trying it and was a bit nervous as it's very different to my typical meals) and my girlfriend got the nanny burger. Both meals were very good, but the fish brewis was especially delicious and was a massive portion size. I got a lemonade which was good and my girlfriend got a tea which she liked. Definitely recommend coming here!
Lovely place, friendly service, but very average food. Appreciated the locally caught lobster but between the small spongy roll, handful of packet crisps and literally 1 tablespoon of slaw in a tiny plastic cup made for a very underwhelming meal, im sorry to say. Chowder was woefully bland. So sad, was really looking forward to a meal out here as our first meal out on the island. And for 80$ to boot. Sorry but can't recommend.

What a great spot with delicious traditional Newfoundland food! We both tried things we hadn’t yet had a chance to try…I had the cold plate and my husband tried the fish and brewis. We started with bacon wrapped scallops and washed it all down with cold Iceberg beers. Everything was excellent! Great service, too. Can’t wait to return!

The atmosphere was lovely. I was lucky enough to get the last available Jiggs dinner which was great. The whole family had pie of various types for dessert and holy cow, was that the highlight of the week. The crust was incredible & one of the kids even licked her plate clean to get all of the crust crumbs. I wish our trip was longer so we could have gone there again.
