Picnic by the lighthouse!!! I got the ham and brie sandwich, orzo salad, and cake! One of the best experiences to do when visiting Newfoundland! The views are absolutely breathtaking.

Whether a local or come-from-away, a lighthouse picnic is not to be missed! The service provided by the truly lovely staff is outstanding. The food is some of the most delicious on the island & beyond - fresh, flavorful, generous servings of everything. The setting? Spectacular. We sat hillside over the cliffs watching the surf pound & splash against the craggy shore as a pod of seals frolicked not 100ft away under most brilliant sunshine. Heaven on earth.

We visited the lighthouse picnic, but unlike many others, I hadn’t pre-ordered. I only realized once we got there that food has to be booked ahead, and when searched in google maps, “about” section or menu doesn’t really say that clearly. It would be helpful if they added that note up front so first-time visitors don’t miss it.
Since I couldn’t get the full picnic, I just grabbed a brownie and a lemonade instead. Both were really good, and the spot itself is beautiful, so I still enjoyed the visit. But if you’re planning to go, make sure you pre-order your picnic in advance, otherwise you’ll end up like me, wishing you had.

What a lovely idea for such a stunning location.
The location and views are breathtaking! The sandwiches, salads and desserts are really delicious and fresh. We especially loved the carrot cake. Highly recommend. Remember to book well in advance.

We saved Ferryland for last during our recent trip to Newfoundland, and what a great decision it was. The lighthouse picnic was absolutely a highlight of our visit - such a unique experience to get to enjoy a delicious meal cliffside overlooking the ocean (and we spotted seals and whales!). The staff are super friendly, the lunch was delicious (we were all fighting over the last piece of ginger cookie) and the lemonade was perfect. The lighthouse itself is adorable - worth a quick visit inside to learn about local history. 100% would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, memorable experience that showcases Newfoundland's finest natural beauty.
P.S. the homemade bread for the sandwiches is so good...I wish we could buy whole loaves to take home!

The concept sounds nice. Except you have to reserve and make your order before arriving on site. We looked at the website and didn’t notice this. So we drove, walked 20 min to the lighthouse and they told us that they needed a reservation. We had to walk back 20 min to our car the stomach empty. They only this is that a little sign mentioning the reservation is NEEDED should be at the parking lot so people don’t make the trek to be told to go back. I’m on vacation and didn’t plan to reserve a sandwich place
This is such a wonderful idea! The setting could not be more beautiful. Definitely get a picnic and plan to hang out for a while to watch the whales. Highly recommend.

Great experience for everyone - visited back in August booked the night prior as weather was looking spotty prior to and I think a lot of people cancelled (which meant a less busy lighthouse), but ended up being a well-worth it experience. Curry chicken sandwich and lemonade were good. Staff were friendly. Atmosphere and view are stunning.
Note that the walk to the lighthouse is about 20-30 min (washrooms at the lighthouse), so arrive well in advance! There is a man with an ATV that can take you for a small fee.

A very original lunch idea surrounded by nature that creates a truly memorable moment as the coastal setting on the eastern part of Newfoundland (Canada) is remarkable. The food is all home made: great tasty sandwiches, salad, lemonade and desserts. If you are lucky you may see passing by icebergs while you eat.

We loved our lighthouse picnic experience. I booked online 2 weeks before our trip. In the day of, you drive up the gravel road to the parking lot, and then hike (uphill on the way there) 1.0 km to the lighthouse. We reserved our picnic for the 12:00 pick up, and arrived early so we could explore the area around the lighthouse before the picnic pick up time. The area is beautiful.
At noon we went in the room at the bottom of the lighthouse to pick up our food. Everything was ready and in a bag for us to take with us. They have baskets and blankets for you to borrow and bring your stuff out to the area around the light house. There is also a single washroom for use inside, that is only accessible from 12-3 when picnics are being served. There are benches and picnic tables, as well as lots of green space to picnic on the ground with your blanket.
I really enjoyed the cookies and orzo salad. By husband loves his curried chicken sandwich, though for me, I don’t love the jam and Brie as much. The sandwiches are huge with very thick slices of bread. Enjoying the picnic with the view of the tuna jumping in the ocean was special. We are so glad we arranged for this picnic and would definitely recommend it.
Parking: Gravel/grass parking lot available 1 km away from lighthouse

There’s a reason this place sells out quickly!!! Best food ever. We purchased a ham sandwich and a grilled cheese sandwich, the quinoa salad and orzo salad, and the molasses cookie, chocolate cake, carrot cake, and marshmallow brownie. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The ham sandwich was TOO DIE FOR, and all the deserts were beautifully garnished. You can tell the staff here love what they’re doing because every detail is looked after. They include carrying bags, and blankets for your picnic. Be careful to pack good shoes, because there is about a 10 minute walk (great scenery, but a little rocky!!) to get to the lighthouse to pick up your food!

Beautiful spot for a delicious picnic lunch. Views are incredible, we saw numerous whales and one otter. Warning for motorcycles…the road to the upper parking area is very rough stone. We did ride up on our VStar 1100’s, but I would not do it again. It is a long walk from the lower paved parking area but there is an option of a ride in an ATV, ten dollars PP each way…..worth it on hot day!

Went out east to visit friends and ended up going to lighthouse picnics. It was a very windy day but the experience was so lovely; food was delicious (we had the ham sandwiches, orzo salad, assorted cookies and cakes), lemonade was wonderful (not too sweet, perfectly homemade), we received blankets to picnic on, and a cute metal basket for our picnic. The grounds are awesome to walk around and we really enjoyed our time. Would go again.
Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options for food.
Kid-friendliness: It’s a nice day trip that also gets the little ones outdoors. Just be careful to not let them out of your sights (there are some steep cliffs surrounding the main grounds).

Great place to have a picnic. Food was ok. The usual sandwiches. The food is not made onsite but catered. And delivered when you order. The vege sandwich was surprisingly good while the curry chicken sandwich I thought was average. It tasted more like a chicken sandwich with some curry powder mixed into it. The cakes were ok. Nothing special. But in the end it’s an experience that was worth going for. .
