We booked Taste last minute on Sunday evening. As much as we were excited to eat at this renowned place I must admit that our excitement has weaned the minute we have arrived. Although the location and views are spectacular, the ambiance of the restaurant was below par. Our table was set very plainly and only 2 small plates with a fork and knife. No glasses, no candlelight (it was getting dark).
The food - we ordered a crab appetizer to share, the waitress has brought us a sharing plate (one for 2 ppl). The crab dish was served on the base of toasted white bread, bed of lettuce and a generous portion of crab meat minced with mayo. The lettuce was not fresh and I actually had to cut off the ends as they looked unappetizing.
For the main course - my husband got halibut, which seemed a bit overcooked and it was a very small portion. I ordered their seafood gragada. The seafood was submerged in a liquid similar to a mussels sauce, not creamy. The olives were sliced (not whole) and likely from a jar. No tomatoes were added. At the bottom of the dish were scalloped (thick) potatoes which were totally undercooked. While I have somewhat enjoyed the seafood, the potatoes were inedible. There was no bread provided at all, which would have been appreciated since the watery sauce filled almost half of the plate.
There was a desert as well, but not really worth mentioning.
A meal that cost almost $200 for 2 ppl one would expect a better experience.
For a place with such beautiful setting we left disappointed.

Very disappointing. The ambiance was stark. Although the service was friendly it was nothing spectacular. The food was average except for the pricing. As one reviewer put it, $40 price for $20 food. My wife asked for any bread and was given a slice of brown bread from a loaf and charged $2.50. It wasn't even served with butter. We have eaten at many an elegant restaurant but I suggest that you give this a miss unless you are prepared to accept very expensive mediocrity.

Came here for dinner after finding the restaurant on Google Maps. The entrance was quite hard to find because the Google Maps marker is placed in the middle of green land without indicating where to turn off the main road onto the property.
We ordered the lamb, seafood gragada, scallops and two desserts. Everything was really delicious as expected with friendly service and a relaxing atmosphere.
Only a few small quibbles:
1. In the seafood gragada we found the calamari and fish to be over cooked, but everything else was excellent.
2. The restaurant doesn’t yet offer an alcoholic drink menu due to the lack of an alcohol license. In lieu of that, the restaurant offers a rather basic non-alcoholic menu consisting of soft drinks, bottled water and other beverages easily found in most grocery stores. For a restaurant presenting as a high end dining experience, they should have nicer beverage offerings. (E.g. Mocktails, local de-alcoholized beers/wines/ciders, fresh pressed juices, loose leaf teas, premium coffees, cold brew tea/coffee.) The disappointing drink menu was rather surprising.
Aside from the above small things, it was a really excellent dining experience. I would recommend visiting this restaurant if you have the opportunity.

It’s not often that every menu item looks amazing, but at Taste, we wanted to eat everything. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We had the lobster bisque, beef tartar, Seafood and Leek risotto, and the Seafood Gragada. We also had all three desserts - we couldn’t decide! While we didn’t need any dietary accommodations, the staff/chef were will to make them if needed. Views were beautiful. Best dining experience we’ve had in Newfoundland this far. A true gem in Gros Morne.

Food and service was incredible! Highly recommend!!!!!
While we were attending the Writers at Woody Point Festival, four of us took the opportunity to visit “Taste”, the restaurant in the Gros Morne Inn. It is fabulous!
Before I get into the review, a couple of caveats: 1. The driveway can be a bit challenging due to the high incline and gravel surface. If you’re driving something sporty and low to the ground, you won’t make it. This is an SUV only affair. We arranged a car/taxi so not a problem. 2. BYOW (bring your own wine) this is not a bad thing. There’s a Liquor Express just 2 mins up the road with a good selection. We brought a bottle of champagne; we were celebrating, and champagne does pair nicely with seafood, especially shellfish. We also brought a bottle of white (chardonnay) and a bottle of red (a spicy Shiraz). On with the review.
The restaurant has an amazing view of the stunning Bonne Bay overlooking the community of Woody Point just below the Inn and Norris Point across the bay. In the background is the majestic Gross Morne Mountain. They have a large deck with plenty of seating where you can take in this vista, preferably with a glass of bubbly, before returning inside.
Our appetizers were then ready to be served. I had the nicely plated beef tartare which was very, very tasty. One diner had the Lobster and Shrimp bisque. It was a delicate broth filled with chunks of Newfoundland lobster and perfectly cooked shrimp. The other diners had the Smoked Scallop Salad, which I think was the stand-out appetizer for the evening. The delicate smoke wonderfully complimented the sweet scallop flavour. The plating was stunning with bright pops of colour. I can’t remember all of the mains, but I do recall both of us having the Seafood Gragada. This was a delicious combination of lobster, halibut, shrimp, squid and potato served in a delicate cream herb sauce. We licked the bowls clean! My wife had the Seafood Risotto with scallops, shrimp and crab. Amazing! For dessert, we all ordered the Partridgeberry Crème Broulee. If you have never had Partridgeberries (Lingonberries in Scandinavia), this is the way to enjoy them. They are a very tart berry similar to, but much smaller than a cranberry. It was the perfect blend of tart contrasting the decadent crème Brulee.
This was a delightful meal that would challenge many of the best restaurants.
