I've been here a few times over the years (whenever I'm home for a visit). This cafe is always a highlight of my trip home to central Newfoundland. The food is always fresh and cooked well. The location is unbelievable! Located in quant Kingspoint, NL, right along the bay. You can eat indoors or out on the patio. Enjoy the beautiful waterfront and maybe see a whale or two! It's stunning! The only reason I'm giving service a 4 this time is because there was a mix up of our families reservation. They did seem to be under staffed, as food took a long time to get out. Normally everything is quick and fresh. **However this time we were with an elderly family member who found sitting waiting for an hour for supper uncomfortable. Due to the short staff, we also didn't get water refills, extra napkins etc. When food arrived, it didn't come out at the same time. Some people were basically done with dinner before others even had theirs. It was also a Saturday evening, during August, so still during a prime tourist evening. However, I am mentioning all this as this is a busy restaurant. And I'd hate for anyone to blow this restaurant off due to slow food, because when we did get dinner, it was phenomenal!!
Walkability: There are cute local marker shops near by, a whale heritage site not far from it. Great location to learn about local culture.
Food and drinks: By The Sea Cafe has a wide variety of food, full service drinks, wines, etc.

Worst experience ever.
After spending almost a 100$ there I will never go back.
We showed up for a bachelorette party for five and told we had to sit on a picnic table which we were fine with.
But this is how it starts after.. we waited 15 minutes before getting asked what we wanted to drink (also had to call out across the deck for a waiter to get a drink menu) while there was people that came in after us that got served drinks and food before us when we were there with our books closed waiting for service!
We were seconds to walking out then the server came out.
Also never received napkins or cutlery for our food when asking for napkins we were given three for five people!
Short story is if I could only tip on the taste of the food I would!
Also stay away from the nachos! Portion sizes aren’t worth the price!

Wonderful service from our waiter, Canyon! Lovely outside deck and a beautiful, scenic location. Food delivered in a timely fashion - all meals were tasty and the calamari was sooo good!

Delicious food not far off the highway. Situated right on the water this great little gem has a feeling of being right on a scenic boat tour, without the sea sickness! The food is delicious, with some of the best fries I've had in a long time and the staff is quite friendly. Ask pretty much any local business where to go and they'll send you here, no wonder why!
