What a gem!
We had such a wonderful experience at JavaJax. The homemade food was not only absolutely delicious, but there were plenty of great gluten-free options—which we really appreciated! We especially loved the seafood chowder, and the moose stew with the biscuit on top. Everything was rich in flavor and clearly made with care.

What made the visit even more special was chatting with the owner. She’s incredibly hardworking and genuinely cares about every customer, especially those of us who need gluten-free choices. You can feel the love and personal touch in every dish. Highly recommend stopping here—you’ll be well-fed and warmly welcomed.

Weird. Jekyll and Hyde. 8 of us had dinner, ranging from good to delicious. A cut above standard Newfoundland fare; tasty, even inventive. So on our way out we ordered takeout breakfast (muffins) and lunch (sandwiches) to pick up the next morning. Not cheap, but hopefully worth it for quality and convenience.

They were awful. Muffins doughy, tasteless. All 8 of us independendly agreed they were close to the worst muffins we had ever had, on par with one's first attempts to bake at age 9, leaving out crucial ingredients. The sandwiches ranged from boring down to tasteless, with one completely butchered. (Ordered as club with no dairy, was packed as sandwich fillings with no bread at all and no utensils to eat the deconstructed fillings either).

What happened? Not-yet-competent morning staff early in the season? Insufficient attention by chef to the 2nd tier packaged side of the business? Who knows. But I'm left thinking they're worth a visit for a sit-down meal where you can send things back (though hopefully you won't need to...), but not for take-out, where you discover major problems when you're 30 km away.

Lovely place with amazing food. They sell beautiful paintings and souvenirs from New Founland. The food is great! If you come to Rocky Harbour..this is a place to visit!!

We ate here for dinner twice and breakfast once. The first night I had the Moose en crote and it was fabulous! Super rich sauce and crispy crust on top. The Bubbly Bake was good (tons of lobster) but the sauce was a little thin. The bowl of mussels was huge! As were the mussels themselves. The broth was a delicious pesto that we slurped up even after finishing the mussels. :) You probably need reservations, especially in the summer.
Service was fast and friendly. At breakfast I had the croissant french toast (yummy!) and my husband had eggs and bacon. Their dark roast coffee is really good, and I'm super picky about coffee.

No more fettucine lobster... we were very disapointed but what we had was really good

Food was fine but the salmon bowl didn't have much salmon in it.

Our party of four had reservations for 6:30 on a weekday and were glad we did. A very popular spot with the atmosphere of a country kitchen. We had four mains to chose from and sampled the cod, the salmon and the vegetarian lasagna. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. For dessert we enjoyed the Crème Brûlée and the Pavlova, and the decaf coffee was also very good.

Very good meal! Only local products, the food is cooked and seasoned to perfection, the plates are very balanced, from starter to dessert.
And as my girlfriend says, when there is no salt/pepper on the tables, it's a sign that the chef knows what he's doing.
Go there with your eyes closed for the food and your eyes wide open for the view and the art gallery ?
