We went to visit our first time today, our intention was just play with all the cats but we came home with two bonded brothers. The staff are very friendly, the cafe itself is open and airy- great fun for cats and people alike. It’s a great way to give some luv to some sweet animals and such a great way to maybe meet your newest family member.
We were so lucky to come to Catopia after striking out on our search for a kitten. The staff is awesome and very friendly and knowledgeable. They paired us with TWO absolutely adorable kittens that were exactly what we were looking for in terms of temperament and age. The owner is so sweet too and sent us photos and videos of our babies while we waited for our applications to process. Can’t recommend it enough, and so grateful.

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience adopting a sweet little kitten from the cat café. Sandy and the entire staff were incredible—kind, friendly, and extremely helpful. The whole adoption process was smooth and enjoyable.
We’re so grateful for everything they do and will happily continue to support the cat café and their amazing work.

I’ve been to Catopia Cat Cafe twice, and each time I am in awe of the environment that has been created for the animals! The cover charge is $12/person for an hour and they seem pretty popular, so we make sure to book in advance. The staff is always friendly and patient with customers and it’s clear that they are all cat lovers or owners. The space that they have created is both enriching and private for the cats. They have plenty of dangle toys for people to use to engage with the cats. Each time I’ve gone, the owner is so sweet and attentive to her customers and it’s clear that she wants to create a space for both cats and cat lovers. One of my favorite things about this establishment is how everything is made with the cats in mind! For example the prepackaged snacks are in a display box with a sliding handle door (as someone whose cat gets into snacks and bread, it’s the smartest thing I’ve seen), there are plenty of hiding spots for the cats, along with endless scratchers, clean litter boxes and high surfaces for the cats to perch on.

Very clean, no litter box smells. Cat's are so friendly and love to play with the multiple toys around. Will definitely go back!

This place is so great! I went just to check it out and get a few cuddles in, but I ended up adopting a cute grey kitten named Pam. The process was super easy and they even loaned me a little carrier to bring her home in. The staff are so kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming. You can tell that the cats are well taken care of and that everyone working there is passionate about them having a comfortable environment and finding the best home. I was so impressed! Thank you for my new family member :)
I cannot recommend Catopia Cat Café based on this experience.
Told me 12$ per person and kids pay half like 6 or something and they charged me for 4 adults we were 2 adults and 2 kids for 1 hr.
I took my children to Catopia Cat Café hoping to support a local business and enjoy an hour with rescue cats, even though we already have two cats at home. I paid $50 for one hour expecting a fun, relaxing experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered was quite the opposite.
The rules of the café were unclear from the beginning. We were told we could pet the cats, and if a cat chose to stay on our laps on its own, that would be okay—but we were not allowed to pick them up or force them. We completely understood and respected that.
However, once inside, the staff watched my children with suspicion and intensity, as if we didn’t know how to treat animals. My son, who is gentle and experienced with cats, has grabbed a kitten to put it on my lap and it stayed quietly on its own and stay there calmly. Despite this being within the rules, the owner raised her voice and aggressively told my six-year-old son to leave the cat alone.
She continuously interrupted us, stating loudly, “I’m the owner, and these are my rules,” in a way that was rude, confrontational, and unnecessary. I reminded her that as paying customers, we also deserved respect—especially since we weren’t doing anything wrong. Her response was dismissive and hostile. If the cat was recently neutered and not supposed to be touched, it shouldn’t have been in the open area accessible to customers in the first place.
Instead of creating a welcoming environment for families and potential adopters, the owner made us feel targeted and uncomfortable. We left disappointed and frustrated.
I truly wanted to support this place, but the lack of clear communication, poor customer service, and disrespectful attitude—especially toward children—was unacceptable. I cannot recommend Catopia Cat Café based on this experience.

I have adopted 5 cats from Catopia. They do a tremendous job getting cats and kittens placed in their furever homes and are partnered with many local rescues and shelters. They respect and understand cats and their nature and always do their best to ensure that the environment is ideal for both the cats and people who come in to visit and/or potentially adopt. The cats come from great foster homes and are well socialized. The staff is friendly and will answer any and all questions and give as much background on the cats as they know. Sandy, the owner, is knowledgeable and truly cares about finding the best homes for all the cats and kittens that come through her doors. The space is always clean and pleasant with lots of little areas to interact with the cats there. Even if you can’t adopt it’s still a great place to hang out and sit and play with cats while enjoying a snack and a beverage.

I first came to Catopia a few years ago and I immediately fell in love with it! It is the perfect place to bring friends and family, and the staff there is the BEST. You can truly tell how much all the staff pour love and care into the cats, and appropriately vet potential adopters before sending the kitties home <3 I have adopted two cats from Catopia and still visit regularly because it is just such a wonderful environment. When you adopt a kitty, they send you home with some of their favorite food and toys which warms my heart. You can also just visit catopia for a small hourly rate to see the cats without adopting them! Thank you Catopia for being such a wonderful loving place for so many cats in need <3
Catopia works tirelessly to get these kitties into loving homes. I recently adopted through Catopia and my experience was nothing less than perfect. The owner was extremely helpful and responsive. I couldn’t be happier with the adoption process. Thank you Catopia for bringing Tilly into my family.
I visit every year all the way from California because I adore this place so much. This is worth a visit!

We have adopted three cats from Catopia. They have made our life immeasurably happier and richer. We can't image being without them. Catopia provides an incredible service to the community. They had 18 adoptions of homeless felines in a recent week! A visit there can't help but be a joyful experience...surrounded by playful, adorable cats and kittens that are clearly well cared for. Sandy, the manager, is so helpful, and she makes the adoption process seamless and painless. A word of warning however...if you go there, chances are that you will leave with a new family member. Be prepared!

Catopia is a wonderful place. The environment is designed to have the cats enjoy the purrfect transitional sanctuary while they await adoption. Although it is designed with the cats at the forefront, humans are welcomed with open arms. Catopia has created a space that is inclusive, friendly, and fun. The cats are so loved and well cared for and come from all different rescues/shelters in New Mexico. This can lead to different costs for adoption, but all funds procured for adoption goes directly to caring for animals at that rescue. (I can personally say this is true as i worked with a shelter that helped cats get into care at Catopia.)
The human snacks are easy and convenient to consume while visiting. Sandy and her crew are such a light in the rescue world and to Albuquerque. There is a cost to get in, this covers care for the cats, staffing, and for the facility. Truly, The cost is minimal compared to what it actually costs to care for the cats and pay for the space! I am surprised to see others complaining about this.
If you wanted to support a local gem, a crew who is compassionate about cat rescue, and find yourself relaxing amongst the kitty vibes.. head to Catopia. It truly is a special place.
