Their quality of their espresso is very sad. I've been going to Heatwave since they opened, but lately their espresso shots have been extremely sour since August. Either the grind size is too course, or the espresso machines are not regularly cleaned for robust shots of espresso. I reckon they don't allow enough time for the water and the coffee grinds for proper extraction. I had my regular espresso order earlier this week and it was sour. I returned again for their bourbon vanilla latte and I could taste the sour espresso shots. Then, I went to their wonderful fall market yesterday and ordered a cappuccino, but it was STILL soo sour.
I kept hoping that it was just a bad day that I was coming in for my coffee.
I love their atmosphere and their in-house baked goods. The baristas are so nice and I love the seasonal drinks available at the store. If they work on the quality of their espresso shots on a regular basis, then this place will be perrrrrfecttt!

we bumped into this gem of a coffee shop accidentally, but it was so meant to be! we came back multiple times during our visit to Albuquerque. delicious coffee, tea, chai lattes, matcha, pour overs. and the also have delicious food too - donuts, breakfast burritos, baked goods. yum! and they’re just a few doors down from Nekter, so you can get a green juice AND. quality coffee. that’s what we did ;)

I visited Albuquerque for the first time and found Heatwave Coffee to be absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely seem to love what they do.

They also sell some high quality merchandise like apparel and coffee accessories.

You can really taste the quality in every cup. I tried a vanilla latte and it was perfectly balanced—not too sweet, with rich espresso and creative flavors.

Bonus points for the fast Wi-Fi, comfy seating, and clean bathrooms. Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup to go or settling in for a few hours, this place hits all the right notes. Highly recommend!

Finally, a latte with a full flavor, rich and well balanced, Italian style expensive at $5.35 for a small.. Unfortunately, there was a very strong and unpleasant smell toward the front of the store. It was so bad I thought I'd have to drink my coffee to go. Luckily, the smell dissipated toward the back. I personally found the music too loud for a coffee shop but that's my preference.

I returned to ABQ after a five-month hiatus in DC and almost immediately wanted to revisit Heatwave. They are still super cute with a quasi-friendly vibe and now have WiFi which means I can dig into work there. However, I was disappointed to find they had completely changed their pastry chef. The scones used to be fantastic — unusually soft and luxurious on the inside. They are now dry and fully iced and one bite hurt my stomach. Hopefully, they’ll diversify their offerings so that they have more than just one non-dessert offering (the croissant) and a less fattening milk option (they have nut versions and whole milk). The London fog was fine albeit also too sweet. I’ll give them another chance bc they’re a local mom and pop shop, but I hope they can find greater balance in the menu and continue to work on their customer service. XO

Heatwave Coffee is an absolute gem! The staff is so kind and welcoming every single time I visit. The espresso is perfectly dialed — especially for milk drinks — and you can tell they really care about the craft.

Most importantly, all of their pastries are made in-house and are both creative and delicious. Bonus points: all of their syrups are house-made too, which makes every drink taste that much fresher and more unique.

Highly recommend stopping by — you’ll leave feeling happy you did!

My go to local coffee spot, love the staff and the good vibes! Sometimes they have events like cars and coffee & late mocktail hour with a DJ.

I recently visited here. I love the location and I love the atmosphere and I love the space. It’s a great place to go and have a small meeting, 81 on one with someone or to just enjoy your coffee in peace to the north east Heights
