I was really craving Caldo de res, so I placed my order over the phone and went to pick it up. I ordered two large bowls of it; imagine my surprise when I got home and found—nothing but broth, a huge bone, a piece of corn, and a tiny baby potato. I paid $40—$20 each—only to be left hungry. The only reason I’m giving two stars is that the broth actually tasted good. It was a huge disappointment, especially since we used to be regular customers; they really need to improve their takeout service.

There are restaurants you visit once—and then there are places like Los Olivos Mexican Restaurant that call you back again and again.
From the moment you walk through the door, you’re not just stepping into a restaurant—you’re stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of Old Town Mexican culture.
The décor is rich, warm, and deeply authentic, creating an atmosphere that genuinely makes you feel as though you’ve been transported straight into Mexico.
What makes this experience even more special is that this is a true family-owned establishment, and that heart is felt in every detail.
Annia, our waitress, was nothing short of phenomenal. Her warmth, attentiveness, and pride in her family’s restaurant elevated the entire experience. She doesn’t just serve you—she welcomes you and makes you feel like part of something meaningful.
It’s rare to encounter service that feels this genuine and effortless.
The food? Absolutely exceptional. Every dish was layered with rich, authentic flavor—bold yet balanced, fresh yet deeply comforting.
From delicious, perfectly seasoned traditional dishes with the New Mexico flavor, to beautifully crafted vegan options, the menu truly caters to everyone without compromising quality or taste.
Each bite felt intentional, vibrant, and satisfying, showcasing both tradition, thoughtful preparation and beautifully plated delicious food!
Los Olivos isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to experience. It’s where culture, family, and incredible food come together in a way that feels both comforting and unforgettable.
A phenomenal local gem that is more than worth visiting—again and again.

We are always satisfied with our food
Walked in for lunch 1:15. Walked out at 1:19 no one greeted, peaked around nothing. Not sure if I was supposed to walk to the back and make my own food.Sad because I heard so much good about this restaurant.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but their hours are limited (they open too late for breakfast, for me, close too early for dinner). It's Mexican, not New Mexican, which was part of the appeal. I was disappointed that they don't offer chile rellenos, so I ordered cheese enchiladas. They were good, but very overpriced -- $16.99, the most I've ever paid for a dish that probably costs less than a dollar for ingredients (yes, I understand there are other costs, but still...). I know all about inflation, but that's excessive for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a bad neighborhood. Service was also extraordinarily slow. It took 40 minutes for me to get my food, even though there were only two other customers. They both got their food before me despite arriving after me, which is always annoying. What could be simpler to make than enchiladas? After such a long wait, my enchiladas were also lukewarm. I won't be back.

Welcoming, homelike & cozy Mexican restaurant. My absolute favorite spot to enjoy consistently delicious birria, quesabirria & carnitas tacos! Ran by the Hernandez family. All dishes are family recipes prepared with care. Fresh and flavourful sauces served on the side, not on the tacos. Filling portions at affordable prices. Small space that fills quickly during lunch hour. Fenced parking lot.

I ordered the Caldo de Res. I woke up not feeling well, and caldo was the only thing that sounded good to me. So, I decided to try Los Olivos, and I am glad I did. The soup was everything I needed. Flavorful broth, tender meat, good rice, and veggies.
The Caldo de Res comes with tortillas and salsa, as well. All very good.
Additionally, the staff was muy amable, and the restaurant had a nice and homey vibe.
My only complaint is the price. I paid $18 for a large soup that was only enough for 1 serving.
Nonetheless, it was delicious, and I'll probably be back.
