In light of Mesa Provisions being recognized as a finalist for the James Beard Award, I thought that I would make a reservation for dinner while I was in Albuquerque. The hostess was professional and soft-spoken. My server was an engaging 50something lady. She helped me select a glass of white wine. I knew that I wanted to try the lamb shank. Unfortunately, none of the ingredients indicated that the carrot mole would be a five out of ten in terms of heat. I found the heat to be overpowering and, after a couple of bites, I asked to order something else. Despite offering to pay for the lamb shank, the restaurant graciously took it off of my bill. The staff member stated that all of their entrees are spicy. I probably wouldn't have dined at Mesa Provisions had I known this. I ordered the hamburger sans green chile. It was a serviceable hamburger, but nothing extraordinary or unusual. The chocolate surprise dessert, with meringue and hazelnuts, was delicious. The food at Mesa Provisions is prepared and presented well. They are worthy of Beard recognition. If I were to return, I'd enjoy a glass of bubbles and dessert at the bar. I added the $38 cost of the lamb shank as my tip.

I love this place! It's very comparable to a nice dinner spot in Los Angeles. The menu is simple. The service is great. The place is small-ish. Reservations recommended. Parking - street parking is free. I don't think they have a parking lot. Food - I would order the biscuits $8 again. Everything about it was great. The honey butter was tasty. The Mesa Burger $17 was surprisingly very good. The patty was cooked well and to my liking. You can feel the spicy kick, but it's not too spicy. The bone-in bison ribeye $72 was the most expensive item on the menu. It's also bison meat, which I've only had maybe one other time in my life. I did not like the combination of flavors here. The cilantro lime butter was enough in my opinion. I thought the beans and yam were good, but they should have put the salsa macha on the side. [The salsa macha reminded me of Lao Gan Ma sauce!!] I would come back and maybe have room for dessert next time!

I had high hopes after reading about the restaurant's recent nomination for the finals of the latest round of James Beard awards. The menu was compelling and my server was kind, patient & knowledgable. I ordered 2 plates. The first one was a shaved asparagus salad on a bed of burrata cream. It was presented well but the quality of the cheese was substandard & I have had better at a chain grocery store. The dukkah was pedestrian and all it proved was that someone in the kitchen can use a mandolin. After sending the dish back, the chef came out to speak with me which was nice to show he cares for feedback. He was a bit defensive & stated that he merely cooks for folks in NM, not NY. I found the comment a bit odd, because I wanted to share my underwhelming impression of the dish. My 2nd dish was much better, it had beets with a white BBQ sauce. I was shocked to learn that the chef decided to charge me for the dish I did not enjoy. I have been treated better at chain restaurants. If this is the manner in which guests are treated after logging less than satisfied results of their orders, I am happy I know other establishments that respect a diner's viewpoint and will not be forced to purchase substandard items.

The outside is nothing special, but the inside certainly is. You can come here for the comfortable feel with good table spacing and a great place for quiet conversation, and for the excellent service, but the best reason is for the food. We had an outstanding meal with green chile biscuits served with red chile honey butter, and roasted chicken with a red chile rub and served with a smoked lime and on top of a divine piñón seed avacado sauce. Frankly, the coleslaw was not up to the level of the rest of the dish, but the chicken and biscuit were perfectly executed. This restaurant is a gem. Make sure to visit.

I was absolutely blown away by just how awesome an experience Mesa Provisions provided. Due to the small size of the location they require reservations upfront, which is easy to make online. From the moment I arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. The hostess was very helpful and friendly. We were seated very quickly and greeted warmly by our waiter. He provided great recommendations and helped us select an outstanding wine to complement our meal. The food was delicious, to the point that just writing this review is making me crave their food. From the salad to the entrée to dessert, each item was amazing. Their prices are comparable to other locations in the Nob Hill area, but in my opinion you really get outstanding value for the price. I cannot wait to go back and recommend them 11/10 stars (yes they broke the rating system, they were just that good.Parking: There is an area of parking meters approximately 400 feet east (towards the mountains) from the front entrance.

My wife and I make a point of exploring highly rated restaurants when we visit a new city. Mesa Provisions was on our list during our recent visit to Albuquerque. We came in with high expectations and they were met. The vibe was very laid back, but you could tell that the entire team was on the same page. Our waiter did an excellent job of coursing out a meal to suit our tastes. The food was spectacular and truly represented the winter season and South West regional style. The chef was very visible during our visit. It is not common to see the chef at all, but that was not the case here. He visited our table twice to inquire how we enjoyed various courses. He didn’t miss a chance to clear our plates as he walked by, and at one point he even answered the main phone when the hostess was seating a couple and I watched him book a reservation in the computer as though he did it every day. I respect a chef who has that sort of culinary talent and still does what it takes to serve every customer and make his restaurant successful. Good food is always noteworthy, but when good people prepare and serve good food, then a restaurant can be considered exceptional. And lest I forget to recommend some tasty bites. The BBQ’d beets and boneless ribeye were the stars of the show. The steak was served with a mushroom ragú and topped with shoestring fries and Parmesan cheese. Couldn’t have been more flavorful in every bite. It is a perfect shared dish for two people if you add a couple small plates. For dessert, the panna cotta was an unexpected choice, but was so flavorful I caught myself wishing I had ordered 4 or 5 more just to keep my taste buds happy. As for value, we dine all over the country and Mesa Provisions stands up to any restaurant in its class,, while coming in well below the price of a similar restaurant in most large cities. If you like a great dining experience and love to support passionate chef run restaurants, you will not go wrong with a visit to Mesa Provisions.

I haven't been able to eat out in quite awhile. Mesa Provisions was a perfect first meal back out. Dominic was our server. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. We got the carrots, kale salad, and brussels sprout toast. The carrots and kale salad were really tasty but the toast was one of the best things I have ever eaten. Can't recommend it enough. We also got the burger and the smoked chicken. Everything was amazing.Best restaurant in town. Can't wait to go back.

Mesa provisions is a bit of an experience. With a constantly evolving and shifting menu the dish you loved last time may have been rotated out this time. For habitual orderers this can be disconcerting, however for those of us that like variety and trying new things, it doesn't get much better. The design and intent of MP is centered around trying new things, socially. Dishes are intended to shared so many can experience a multiple of flavors and dishes. Of course you can order 'JUST FOR ME' but variety is the spice of life and MP is trying their best to serve it up.MP gets very busy and reservations are a must. If you want a table, don't delay and plan a few days in advance. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and happy to tell you all about the dish you're drooling over or about their own favorites.Parking during prime hours is hellish, so give yourself some extra time to find parking. There are not many eateries pursuing this ever-shifting menu nor the quality (while at a very acceptable price). Don't sleep on Mesa Provisions, everything on the menu is wonderful and worth giving a try.Parking: Parking is difficult unless you are off-prime hours, so give yourself time to make a lap or two and expect to walk a block or so.

Delicious dinner and great service. Ambiance was good. We started with the charred cabbage and grilled shrimp (without chorizo). I had the ruby trout. He had osso bucco. Panna cotta for dessert. It was all so good!!

My wife and I went on Valentine’s Day. The staff is nice and professional. However, the service felt a little rushed (we ate around 6:30 p.m.) and the food was very good but the portions were so small we went out for pizza afterwards (even my wife was hungry). Also it has a weird feel inside, it’s not relaxing, more like a bright room (the owner keeps the curtains closed so maybe that's why). We’ve been twice before and we loved it. I think something has changed or maybe it's a new chef. All in all a good place but a little too expensive for what you get.
