Small but nice. We both had the fried catfish. It may have been the best I've had in Albuquerque. The side dish portions were larger than most places. I liked the potato salad.

Tried this place today, after seeing it a few times while driving by. I'm pretty picky sometimes, I admit it, lol, but this catfish was delicious...a nice, thick fillet and very flavorful. And this may be the best collard greens I have ever had too...fresh cut and seasoned to perfection. I will definitely be eating here again soon!

We very much enjoyed our visit to Hot Mess. The selection was good and interesting. Walking in, you could smell wonderful wood smoke. Their spicy BBQ sauce was just the right sweet, smoke, and spice, adding to the goodness of the brisket. The brisket was not over flavored, letting the meat shine. The collard greens were well cooked with a bit of a spiciness to them. The pickles were great and sour to stand up to the batter. The Oakra was breaded and cooked just right. The catfish was delicious! Perfectly battered and perfectly fried. But the surprising show stopped was the flavorful mac and cheese. We will be back to try many more items on the menu. It isn't a big place, so don't expect to come in with a group larger than 6-8, but it is definitely worth sharing with friends. Service was quick and friendly.

I came in for my first visit today. I ordered the truffle fries, okra, and some banana pudding. The food is delicious. I commend the chef. Their service was excellent.
