My elderly parents & I stopped at the Dusty Rose Cafe on Sunday, 8/3/25 at around 9am for breakfast heading home to Las Cruces, NM from Carlsbad, NM. We usually stop at the Mayhill Cafe in Mayhill, NM but it is temporarily closed and for sale. When we arrived it wasn’t real busy and there were 2 servers, one was an older lady and a younger one, both with ponytails. My mom asked the server (ours was the older lady), if she could order 1 egg, extra extra crispy bacon, hash browns and wheat toast (my Dad was wanted the same thing) and the server responded “yes” but it would have to be side dishes and I asked but, that would be more expensive and she said “yes” and then suggested the “The Caligula “ and add 2 sides of bacon and that’s what was ordered. When the order arrived my parents received each an order with 2 eggs, 1 piece of bacon and wheat toast. No hash browns or the extra bacon. I spoke up for my parents that they ordered hash browns and extra bacon. I ordered “The Steel-Toed Boot omelette” with extra cheddar cheese and add on green chile. There was a single slice of cheddar cheese on top NO EXTRA at all, none inside which is where cheese should be in an omelette. It was dry and the only thing that tasted good was the. The tiny diced pieces of bacon, sausage & ham don’t taste like meat. The younger server was running circles around our server (the older one) in fact she was the one who delivered our food, got the missing hash browns and extra bacon, plus some more grape jelly and butter. In addition, we asked for napkins 3 times and I finally walked up to the front bar part and got some myself. Since when do you as a server bring menu’s and silverware without napkins??? Our server only came to our table twice during our visit, once to tell my parents that “The Caligula” doesn’t come with hash browns and to say our check was at the register. She should’ve recommended “The Dusty Boot” with 2 eggs, 2 meats, hash browns and toast. All they would’ve had to do was each get a 2-piece side of bacon and only eat 1 egg as that is all they eat is 1. Servers need to know the menus in a restaurant. The final straw was a bill $60 ??? for breakfast for 3 with a coffee & 2 waters??? This isn’t a 5-star restaurant more like a 1-star if even that. More like a ripe-off and take advantage of the elderly (my parents who are 91). We were going to stop at Big Daddy’s Diner, but there were no parking spots, but next time we will wait for one. The food is good and service, plus I have a friend who use to be a server there. My parents were through Cloudcroft in late May & stopped at the Dusty Rose Cafe and told the server what they wanted (not the same lousy one we had on Sunday) got everything except the hash browns. You need a menu item for seniors.

German food Saturday nights is always amazing, most everything is made from scratch on the regular menu. It's a small restaurant that makes everything from scratch, you are in Cloudcroft it takes as long as it takes to eat here.

I’m mixed up on this review, because the food was actually really good!! They’re not playing around when you order green chile on an omelette. There was a whole, high quality green chile in it. My reason for 3 stars instead of 5 is the prices. My son ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast, and a hot chocolate. Sounds like a pretty basic breakfast order, right? His order was $27 before tax. The side of bacon I ordered was $6 for 2 very small pieces of bacon to go with my $14 omelette.. 🥓 I understand the prices are right there on the menu, but I’ve never felt the need to go back over the menu after getting the bill until this visit. The food was good ($6 bacon was meh), but the pricing was nuts to me. I just think there could have been a better way to bill eggs, toast, hash browns, and pancakes so that it’s not $23. Just seemed kind of crazy to me…

Dusty Boots Cafe was referred to us by a friend. We were looking forward to having breakfast there, upon walking in we said good morning to the girl standing behind the bar and she responded with a mumble and not once bothered to look up to greet us. That was enough to just have us turn around and walk out because we believe in customer service. And apparently this cafe has none whatsoever. Now we know why this place was empty when we walked in, a lack of customer service.

This is a great little family restaurant. The food is really good. I recommend the chicken fried steak, it's my favorite for breakfast or dinner. The burgers are also very good. When we go to dinner the staff is on top of things. I definitely recommend it!

Just wanted to give a big thumbs up to the e-bike rental portion of this business. The e-bikes (Pedego) are strong and have wide tires which are perfect for Cloudcroft's hills and occasional gravel patches. Really a fun time and they made everything easy. Heck, im doing it again tomorrow weather willing. Liked the Cafe and candy shop too.

the four of us all had nice plates that were above average quality. My two egg plate had enough where it looked like 3 or 4 eggs; maybe they used giant eggs. The western style potatoes were delicious. Worth a stop.
