The carne asada was very dry and bland and the rice was not cooked properly and very hard. Also very bad service. The whole time we were there the waitress only went and checked on us once. We were at our table waiting for a soda refill and the waitress was eating a plate of food, my 7 year old son took our cup to get some more soda and she just handed him the cup and sat back down to finish eating her food. Once she was finished eating then she finally went and asked if we were doing okay and took our check. Which our check came with gratuity included of 20% for doing literally nothing!!

La Fonda del Sol offers a cozy ambiance, with its walls adorned with pictures of Pancho Villa, Villista revolutionaries, and famous Mexican celebrities, along with other Mexican-themed decorations. The Patio section, filled with plants, provides a wonderfully romantic setting. The service is excellent.
While the main dish, burrito el pastor with red chile, served with a side of sopa de fideos and squash, was not bad overall, the chile was mild—perhaps too mild for my taste—it was good, but not great. Competing with some of the best Northern New Mexican restaurants, La Fonda del Sol falls somewhat short of that high standard. Additionally, the salad was a bit soggy.

Food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was a typical Mexican restaurant nothing standing out. The service was awful. Waiter had an attitude, when asked “which Chile is better red or green” he responded with “most customers get Xmas” with an attitude. Like that’s not what was asked. When asked which option was better again with an attitude he said “most people get option 1”. Again not what was asked. Never checked on our table. Never refilled our drinks. Never brought the check or said to check out up front. Menu states many options come with beans AND rice. No one got beans only rice for those who were suppose to get both sides. And they added their 15% gratuity automatically because there was 8 people(3 were kids) in the party. Waiter didn’t deserve a penny. Would I go again? For takeout I would. But I would never sit inside and pay to receive trash customer service

Restraunt is what I expected of NM. Pueblo/Mexican. Food was delicious. We were traveling threw to Taos. Decided to stop and eat. Hosts was helpful. Waitress was bothered by us arriving 45 min till close. She mentioned it to staff in Spanish. Her body language and attitude was beyond poor. The finale was when she brought me my water after I had eaten my dinner. Would not recommend!!!!! I also work in service industry, Uncalled for behavior. Disappointed.

We stopped by on our way through after 4th of July weekend. We loved the location and atmosphere. The horchata was amazing, the queso fundido was scrumptious and birria was on point!
