What a find in Grants, New Mexico! My partner and I had just hiked El Morro and were looking for a place to relax with a beer. The Junkyard is exactly that - it's literally surrounded by old, beat-up cars. It looks very non-descript from the outside.
Inside it's a nice, clean, ultra-cool brewery. Their lager was excellent, and if you want a treat you must try the Rack 'n Pinyon brew. It was nutty and delicious!
Can't decide what to eat? No problem - there's only one thing on the menu. BBQ sandwiches. They were big and juicy and served piping hot with a bag of chips for $12.
The inside is filled with antique car memorabilia, and there's a large room where the vats are filled with old car stuff. There are games and a pool table, and everything is open and welcoming. Several kids were present and having fun playing checkers and such.
There was only one staff member working on the most recent Saturday. She is a pediatric nurse and usually only works Sundays, but was called in. She was taking the orders, taking money, pouring beer, and running back and forth to the kitchen to cook and serve the sandwiches. A one-woman show and she was awesome. Tip your wait staff well, and make the drive out to Grants to try this place. You won't regret it!

The perfect stop on a long drive. You might miss Junkyard on 66 Brewery because it looks like, well, a brewery. But don't let the chain link fence, wall of wheels, and row of wrecks turn you off. The BBQ is really good (we had the pulled chicken sandwich) and the beers (mostly lagers) are unique and flavorful. In addition to their own brews, they pull a host of guest beers as well.
The quirky atmosphere completes the package. Pull up a chair to a car hood that serves as a table. This auto shop turned community space is unlike any pub you'll be likely to visit.
The host/barkeep/chef/server was welcomeing to us and our pup.
If you are passing through Grants, NM, take the time to stop in for a pint.

I drive from Colorado Springs, CO to SoCal and back about once a month. I came across this place once and am planning to drive I-40 again just to stop by (vs I-I5 and I-70). The place has so much charm esp. if you like old cars, drive-in movies and good beer. I got the chicken from the food truck, which was great, but the only thing on the menu. A copy of the constitution sits on the entry table. This is Americana at its finest.
Great stop for lunch on Route 66. Beers and BBQ were all yummy. Lots to look at, too, especially for car lovers! We had only planned on stopping for a bit, but Maria, our bartender, was so great to talk to and we ended up staying longer. Hubby loved looking at all the decor and the cars outside.

Stopped here in our RV for some barbecue and an overnight stay in their large parking lot (boon-docking). They were very accommodating. Food was excellent. The staff was super friendly. Highly recommend this place if you’re traveling and need a place to pull over and spend the night and enjoy some great food.
