Three words. Chile. Relleno. Burrito. ? if you love chile rellenos and you love beans then there's no other option. Very affordable good Mexican food! Fun drive out by all the pecan orchards in the Upper Valley.
Vegetarian options: Chile rellenos! Beans likely have manteca (lard) but they're so good!

Favorite family gathering place love the bar to the restaurant. Delicious large selection Northern Mexican meals will come back when the time comes to visit with my dad's side of the family been loving it for many years and many years to come. From the outside it opens late in the day but so worth the wait and sometimes take minute at the bar have a few margaritas or small drinks and we're just seconds away from walking to the restaurant across the parking lot

I'm a New Mexican who has eaten Mexican food all over the state. This is the best you are going to find, period. I'm not joking. The rellenos are the best you will find. The red chile sauce is the best you will find. The chips and salsa are on point, and the service is great. Do yourself a favor and make the trip to Chope's. I usually get the combo with 2 red enchiladas, taco, and relleno. It is a ton of food, and all delicious.

No trip to southern NM is complete without a meal at Chopes. It's worth a pilgrimage. My family has been going there for thirty years now. Chile rellenos are often stellar. The red chile con carne is amazing. I don't know if they still have posole, but if you are there on a day they do it's worth an order. Good margaritas, too.

Stopped to get some food to go on my way back to El Paso. I'd eaten there once before but I didn't remember the food being so good! I ordered tacos, enchiladas, and the Chile rellenos. The rellenos were the best thing smothered with green chile. Everything was absolutely delicious. Girls at the bar were nice & talked to me while I waited for my order.
