Exceptional enchiladas! And that's saying something in New Mexico!
We enjoyed the food prepared by the Prairie Hill Cafe for all but one of the nights we stayed at this hotel. The food was amazingly delicious with great portion sizes. We all loved eating and hanging out in the friendly bar. We also got to enjoy lunch and coffee provided by the cafe, which was an amazing treat each day!! Can’t wait to return to this gem!!
Amazing food and amazing people! Our group Helping Paws Across Borders hosted a clinic in the area and the staff supply us with lunch and coffee each day! Such wonderful food!!!
A favorite spot in town to eat and have a beer and listen to some live music. The couple that runs all the food, snacks and libations is young, friendly, loves what they do, always making new additions to keep the offerings fresh and delicious👌It's turned out to be a great addition to the hotel after the Range Cafe closed!
Note to the hotel owners: Now if only the Castañeda can get their act together again... they've had too many bumps and issues since the original restaurant. The original restaurant you opened was excellent food, service and atmosphere... it's really downgraded over the years, and doesn't come close in comparison to the Plazas offerings these days! It's a shame it's gone down hill after the chef left and the package liquor and shop closed...

Service was horrible tried going there on a Wednesday and bartender guy with slicked back blonde hair literally came up to us and said I was just closing but here are some menus I’ll have some waters over! I explained to him we could leave and he said no that’s ok but never came by with waters and left us feeling out of place and not welcome super bummed we are heavy spenders and tip really well but we will not be coming back to this place hopefully service gets better maybe I’ll try it in the future one day.

Wow, that was amazing. We’re driving to Albuquerque so decided to find a place in Las Vegas New Mexico to eat and came along Prairie Hill Café. It was the best farm to table Mexican food that we’ve eaten. I had the blue enchiladas and my husband had a quesadilla. I wish I had taken a picture but we ate it before I thought about it. If you are driving along I25, stop here. best food, great atmosphere and wonderful service

Absolutely one of my favorites! This charming, locally-owned farm-to-table restaurant is an absolute gem. The menu is refreshingly unique, with dishes crafted from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that burst with flavor. You can truly taste the care and quality in every bite. The creativity in each dish is impressive—seasonal ingredients are highlighted in ways that feel both comforting and adventurous. The staff is warm and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. If you’re looking to support local and enjoy a meal that’s both delicious and thoughtfully prepared, this is the place to be!
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp up to the lobby of the hotel where the restaurant is located and ramp access through the back

I am shocked, confused, and flabbergasted at how my family, and specifically my four-year-old, were treated. He will likely suffer a lifelong wound due to the disrespect he felt from the “manager.”
We walked into a completely empty restaurant to grab lunch. After meeting the very nice server, Jay, she sat us, got our drinks, and shared some information about the town and food. She was excellent in her service, taking our order and ensuring our drinks were perfect. I asked her if it was okay for my four-year-old to play on the piano. She said, “Yes, that should be okay. The piano used to play itself, but it no longer does.”
I then told my son it was okay to play there since he was given permission by the staff.
He played for about 45-60 seconds before a man, about 6’3”, pudgy, and stoic, approached my son. I found this odd, as I would never approach a child who was by themselves. This man was not originally in the restaurant, so I assumed he was simply a random man. He spoke to my son with a straight face, and my son started crying almost instantly from this interaction.
My son walked away and came back to the table. When I asked him what that man said, he was so distraught that he didn’t want to share. This was the first time my son had ever touched a piano, and now his first memory is of this stoic man scolding him.
I asked the sweet server who he was, and you could sense the fear in her voice. She clearly walked on eggshells around this man, whom I found to be a terrible leader with poor judgment. She quietly said, “Yes, that’s my manager.” I calmly asked her to go get him because I needed to know what he said to my son.
The next interaction didn’t surprise me. The manager came in with his same droopy, depressed energy, failing to greet or communicate who he was. After I explained that my son had permission to play on the piano, he acted as if it didn’t matter. He cut me off to say that I should not bring kids to a bar, even though this is a full-service restaurant in the middle of the town square at 3 PM. I couldn’t imagine telling the first table for lunch to go somewhere else, especially when I had no customers. I couldn't imagine being this cold and rude to customers.
I asked him why he would approach a four-year-old instead of talking to the parents. A man with common sense knows how dangerous it is for kids in this world and the smart thing to do is to approach the parents if a child is doing something “wrong.” He had no response because he knew he was dead wrong and doesn’t possess the humility to be accountable for his mistake. I also asked him if he would want someone to treat his kids that way; again, no response, which tells me he’s obviously an abusive man.
Then, like a coward, he walked away. I am the owner of a few businesses, and I could never employ someone who lacks communication skills, has no presence, and makes other employees walk around in fear.
There are consequences for every action, and the way you treated my son, my wife, and me today was unacceptable. To be clear, Jay was excellent. The manager—who wore the blue hat, was 6’3”, and never identified himself—is the reason for this review.
Learn to treat every customer with respect. As a grown man, use your common sense and don’t approach children who are by themselves. As a grown man, have some respect for a child’s father after you made them cry.
This is the type of business you support by going here.
as we walk out one of the locals who just arrived said, “This place has gone to hell.” Do what you want with this information.
Whew...I have to first compliment the owner Sara for taking her stand concerning a recent Karen's complaints. Awesome job my dear, you must be adored by your employees. I've never read an owner's response so direct and to the point in regards to a poor review. I hope that more reviews by owners of businesses are as honest and unconcerned about what others think as yours is, and defend their employees so well. It makes me even more satisfied with my visits to your wonderful restaurant, bar, and breakfast and my many stays at the Plaza Hotel.
I have patronized all three of the previously mentioned food and drink establishments in the Plaza Hotel over the last 4 years and each was beyond reproach, perfect in their respective fields, with food and drinks as good as it gets. I spend half my year in Folsom, NM and the other half (winter) in a small town outside of Tucson, San Manuel. I drive back and forth more than just my annual address change times because I love to explore dirt roads and visit small towns. I also attend the Sedona full moon drumming nights at least 2-3 times during summer. I'm a Djembe drummer and have been at over 50 full moon events over the last 30 years, largely because I Lived in Sedona for 20 years.
This night I ordered the filet mignon because it is my reference standard for evaluating fine dining. At other times I have sampled both the specials and the regional items in order to enjoy the chef's choices and culinary skill. On my most recent dining visit I had a few questions for my lovely server who went to the kitchen to ask the chef. A minute later the chef came to my table and we chatted about the source of his beef (his family's ranch) and where it was processed (High Country Meats in Raton). He's a friendly, talented man and is comfortable explaining his restaurant's ethos and his love of local food. I thanked him and left feeling very fulfilled.
The young lady who was my server was excellent and made me feel right at home. The atmosphere is peaceful and an example of restored, cared-for historical beauty. Yes, those chandeliers were amazing. The music that I heard from the kitchen was perfect for my style yet might not fit everyone's night. So what, it was soft enough that the perfection of the food and dining experience made it insignificant, though it was just my cup of mate.
Thank you sir chef and owner Sara for a restaurant that I look forward to dining at every time I drive I-25 north or south.

After being left to wait for a while to be seated, the hostess made sure to lecture us on how soon the kitchen would close. The waitress was shocked when we asked for the other half of our meal. The bread - complimentary in most restaurants but not here - was verging on crouton-like consistency, served with mediocre olive oil and cheap balsamic. The fries were good though, so that's something, and the tea was fresh. And this is admittedly a matter of taste, but the music was teeth-grindingly awful. The chandeliers need to be cleaned.
