An unexpected delicious find. Our lunches were unique and so fresh! Scratch kitchen is small therefore we had to wait and it was so worth it! I recommend no passing this one by.

After rock hounding at the University of New Mexico pegmatite (yes, that’s a real thing) mine, our Head Hound took us to this Penasco gem. It’s colorful inside and out, comfortable, really local, and dripping with rustic northern New Mexico ambiance. We considered lunching only on the homemade chocolate chip cookies we spotted as soon as we crossed the threshold. Instead, we captured three cookies for dessert, before anyone else snagged them, and opted for the grilled cheese sandwich, mushroom burger, and heirloom tomato sandwich. All excellent, especially those locally grown tomatoes. The cookies also turned out to taste as good as they looked, with excellent CDD (crunch, density, and distribution). Another thing I saw just after crossing the threshold was the vintage movie theater projector in a side room. It turns out this tiny place in this tiny village was a hand-built movie theater fulfilling a guy named Roybal’s dream, beginning in 1947. The theatre memorabilia wall is well worth a gander, as is the memories board, where locals share their memories of movie nights and dates and other fun times in this charming little place. We don’t have reason to go to Penasco often, but when we do we will be sure to spend some time and eat some food and chocolate chip cookies at Sugar Nymphs Bistro.

Omg, everything we had was the best version we ever had! Best potato chowder, best grilled cheese, best cheeseburger, best carrot cake. Seriously. An unassuming little treasure with very friendly staff.

Inn on the Rio, Taos

I have lived in Taos, NM for almost 30 years. I own a B&B & have enjoyed eating there and sending my guests there. THIS ENDS TODAY!! I arrived today with one of my guests just before the closing time of 3pm. The door was still open & patrons were exiting just as we walked in. We entered & were immediately told by a young woman behind the counter who announced "we're closed". There was an older female employee present who didn't say a word & wouldn't make eye contact with me. I began to feel some discomfort. I explained that we weren't there for lunch we were just there to purchase 3 pieces of cake "to go". The cakes were on the counter. They refused to sell me the pieces of cake. They lost almost $40.

Located in Penasco, New Mexico, Sugar Nymphs Cafe exudes a charming and cozy ambiance. During a camping trip to the Carson National Forest, my adventurous partner (Wendy) suggested satisfying our cravings at Sugar Nymphs. Upon discovering that the cafe was open, we decided to venture inside and give it a try. As we stepped through the entrance, the outdoor eating area immediately caught my eye, featuring a captivating tiled wall. The inviting dining space, though small, welcomed us with the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked dough and delectable desserts.

The highlight of our experience at Sugar Nymphs was the exceptional wait staff. The delightful young lady who attended to us greeted us with warm smiles, followed by a little bit of back and forth banter, making us feel right at home. We placed our order for the Meat Lovers Supreme Pizza, which turned out to be an absolute delight. The pizza showcased fresh, high-quality ingredients, a perfectly crafted sauce, and hand-tossed pizza dough. As a pizza enthusiast, having sampled pizzas in New York City and the Marlboro area of New Jersey, I can confidently say that Sugar Nymphs' pizza stands out as truly exceptional.

Came here for a lovely lunch with a friend; staff offered to give me some salad because I didn't want eggs with my veggie scramble (I'm vegan but came here because we were in the area and I had never visited the town), and it was great! I really appreciate the accommodation :) It would also be awesome to have an option to sub the eggs for beans or tofu, but I know this probably isn't a common request. I was just happy to be treated so kindly! I also had my dog with me and he sat on the porch with us, there were a handful of other too.

Fresh and delicious food. Then menu is always changing based on what's in their garden and what's available locally. The patio is dog friendly and has nice views. Service is friendly, but slow and the kitchen is small so be prepared to be patient while you wait for your food if you're there during busy hours. Worth the wait.

Had a chicken BLT and salad.
Very good.
Wish I had tried the cakes, smelled good coming out of the kitchen.
If you go for lunch make it an early one.
They get busy.
I was there on a Friday.
