Went to Cattle Baron and was surprised by the food. Last time I went was about 8 years ago and both my mother and I fell sick from the food.
This time the food was great but our server Mahris only came to the table 4 times. Once to get our drinks, take our order, being food and the bill. That's it. I had to flag down another server as ours was in the back room our whole meal.
There is a male server we seen checking on his tables multiple times yet we couldn't get our server at all. Horrible service.

We came again the day after Christmas and it was one bad thing after another. Our butter ramekin had water in the bottom, 2 glasses of water tasted like soap, the bread was stale, the okra and dressing was bad, and as we were being sat, people were sending their food back. I want this place to be so much better considering it's the only place like this in Portales but they frequently disappoint whether it's service or the food. Ive updated my review from when I did my original review from some months ago.

Our server was very friendly and accommodating. My Prime Rib was not cooked well and tough to cut, but he took it back and got me another one that was delicious! Nice salad bar.

To start, the place didn't look all that clean. We ordered the sampler, the shrimp was over cooked and cold, the cheese sticks looked burnt. I ordered chicken fired stake, was some what on the cold side and over cooked. never again will i eat at cattle barons.

have not been there since high school, never again.. the mashed potatoes were nasty and the ribeye looked like a busted up flat iron steak, i drove 20 miles to go there and i did not enjoy it, i would say buy better cuts of meat, presentation is everything , i will never go there again nasty

Bad experience wife ordered rio chicken with a loaded bake potato it had no butter i ordered ny strip with fries and i asked for A1 and ketchup and server never brought it never brought us bread refills came after i was done .... bad deal

Me and my wife and toddler ate here. We were not impressed. My steak was more on the cold side, her sweet potato fries were cold, and our kids macaroni looked like it came from a box. The wife got a martini and it tasted watered down or as if no alcohol was in it. Some items on the menu were not available or they had to go to the back to see if they had it. Overall, the food wasn't disgusting or nasty other than some items being cold. For the price, just drive up the road to Clovis and go to Texas Roadhouse for better food. The service was good though and zero complaints about our waitress.
We have been here a few times now. Good food, good service, and nice place to sit with the family to eat. I recommend the salad bar.

I figured I'd come to cattle baron for a nice lunch since it had been a while since I've been to a steak house. I ordered from my server who seemed to not care about anything I had to say and was uninterested and distracted. She smelt like cigarette smoke and was never present during my entire visit. I had to ask a different server multiple times for items such as drinks and sauces. Safe to say I'll never be back.
