I had a shredded chicken burrito; my husband had a steak burrito. Wonderful food friendly people. We’ll be back when we are coming through. Don’t let the dive atmosphere scare you. Didn’t have time to take a picture; we ate too fast:)

This little restaurant has several picnic tables under quaint roofs sit at the east side of the building. They also have a busy front porch for seating. Most everyone who orders has take-out, however if the weather is good grab a picnic table on the east side. What was once a small house has been transformed into a favorite Mexican restaurant in Raton, NM. Locals told me about it and I have to agree, it's a hidden gem. No indoor seating so be prepared and plan for take-out. Very reasonable prices and lots of meals on the extensive menu.

This is my go to Mexican food spot. Everything is fantastic across the board—from the food itself, to the very respectful staff, and especially the prices! Very affordable, very good.

Today I tried Candelario's for the first time. I ordered pulled pork with potatoe salad and cole slaw. You can get it with rice and beans instead and you get toasted bread or tortilla. The bbq pulled pork was truly awesome with great flavor and juicy. You can get it with sauce on, or on the side, and the sweet sauce was good. The cole slaw and potato salad were both fresh and tasty. Let me just throw in here that I'm picky about food and this bbq plate was exceptionally good. A Great value for $9. They serve from a food truck next to their building, but I'm not sure why they don't operate from the building. The woman who took my order was pleasant and speaks both english and spanish. They have one picnic table, but they should dream bigger. I'll be going back and will try their mexican food next since I live here in Raton, NM. Travelers should stop by in Raton at I-25 exit 452 I think it is and you'll find them just west of the freeway on the right in front of the Conoco station. Eat well!
