Stopped on our way through and had the best Green chili burgers! Friendly service and great food at reasonable prices. We made sure we timed our return trip to have lunch here to enjoy this gem a second time!
This place is OK. I was hoping to find some really good Mexican food in Raton. The restaurant with the best reviews in Raton was in a gas station and I didn't feel up to doing that, so that's how I found El Matador. The green chile is good and the sopapillas were delicious. I was disappointed in the salsa because while they claimed everything is homemade, the salsa was clearly just Pace Picante sauce.
Not Sysco-ized so give the home cooking a try. House made chili, red and green, tortillas, beans, rice, sopapillas, everything. Remember what fresh cooking, instead of re-warming, is like.
