This may be the best hidden gem of a restaurant I have visited in years. Nestled in a little clutter of shops Comal stands out with wonderful food and an even more inviting staff. It is well worth stopping in for a meal.

I'm a foodie snob. I know it. Everybody who knows me knows it. I say that so folks will understand how rare (and how delightful) it is to write this review. El Comal is not Mexican food the way we usually think Mexican. The smokiness of the salsa (muy picosa!), the detail of the Red Chicken Mole (36 ingredients!), the tenderness of the Mexico City Beef steak tacos... Layer upon layer of flavor. One doesn't find this kind of detail in restaurants far more expensive. As stated by others (except for that person...), the place is modest and the service? Lovely, lovely people. The delightful patio under towering pines is classic Ruidoso. You owe it to your palette to experience this quaint, quiet gem.

TERRIBLE!! When I complained & said taste like it was cooked in the microwave the cook said they didn't use microwave & was told to leave! Even the chips were tough & cold! DON"T Waste your time or money!!

What a delightful find! We ate here twice in one week…it was that good! I ordered The House Special both times, one cheese enchilada, one Chile Relleno and one Chimichanga with rice, beans and guacamole. Oh, how I wish the restaurant was in my home town. Cute setting, excellent service. If you love good New Mexican cuisine, give it a try.
