I want to share our recent experience at Grill Caliente in Ruidoso, NM. Unfortunately, we did not feel welcomed or treated fairly during our visit. My family and I are American citizens of Mexican heritage, and we truly felt that the service we received was different from the service given to other guests.
We ordered two well-done steaks, and after more than 30 minutes, our food still hadn’t arrived. Meanwhile, an American couple who arrived after us was served first, and the attention they received from the staff was noticeably better—more polite, faster, and more attentive. My wife complained to the waitress and she said because we asked for the steak to be well done it was taking more time . What an excuse!
When our steaks finally came, they were not cooked as requested, instead of a well done steaks we got medium rare steaks .We informed the waitress, and she told us it would take another 20 minutes to fix them. We decided to wait because we didn’t want to ruin the evening—it was my wife’s birthday—but this was very disappointing. We believe that all customers should receive equal service, regardless of their background.
Even though the experience was unpleasant, we still paid for our meal and left a tip. However, we left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. We hope the restaurant takes this seriously and improves the way they treat all their guests. Will never go back to this place. Awful food and bad service.

Absolutely amazing meal. I had the New York strip. Easily one of the top 5 steaks I’ve ever had. Wife had the vegan enchiladas that were delicious. We shared a stuffed avocado and breaded Chile strips. Two new dishes that knocked our socks off. Staff were very friendly, responsive, and made frequent checks. The owner was engaging and very friendly. Absolutely on our return next year for our anniversary trip restaurant list!

Not quite as unique as expected. Wine bar? Somehow we missed it. Not finding an extensive wine list as was implied by that. Had the green chilli burger, good. Over cooked to a request of MR however. Mash with green chillies also tasty. Best part earning 4 not 3 stars was the deep fried chilli rings. That saved it from being average for me. Recommend? Sure. Rave about it? No.
10/25 Second Visit ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ten years we're back! The chilie rings are still on the menu and as good as ever. No burger this trip. Green Chilee Chicken Enchiladas. They were spot on delicious. Always prefer black beans and you didn't disappoint. Only complaint was wife's order of two veggie tacos served in the taco holder on a large plate looked bad. Toss some chips and a ramekin of salsa on it. Presentation was sorely lacking.

Food is just not as good as it used to be. Too many changes. They did finally get their beer, wine and spirits. $16 for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc! Wow! The pour was extremely disappointing at that price, and an entire bottle of the same wine is less than $16 at the store. I told myself I would try this place one more time since the new ownership, and I am sorry to say we won't be back.
They were BUSY when we arrived, however the food and service were great!

The service here was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and the manager was so kind. Unfortunately, the food really missed the mark for me. I ordered the veggie enchiladas, but the chile sauce was overwhelmingly sweet and so hot that I couldn’t taste anything else. The heat and sugar completely overpowered the dish, which made it unpleasant to eat. I really wanted to like it, but the flavors just didn’t work for me

Good service, amazing food, and a good atmosphere. All of the staff were super friendly and the manager was awesome. I would suggest getting the queso fries and adding a chicken breast to it. It’s the perfect meal.
