Love this restaurant, this was our third visit. The food was delicious with a good selection but not too big. The service was excellent. Jay made sure we had what we needed and provided good recommendations. The view of the Sandia mountains is beautiful adding to the ambience. If you can eat outside take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the mountains and occasionally see deer on the golf course.

We booked dinner here with out-of-town friends because of the fabulous view of Sandia at sunset. The wind did not cooperate, but our server, Jay, moved us inside to the bar area and put two tables together so we could still have a view. The wine list is reasonably priced and pretty comprehensive. One of party was glutern free, and she had no problem finding delicious options with the soft shell crab and Seared 8oz Beef Tenderloin. The unfortunate entree was seared halibut. it was well prepared and plated, but NOT fresh. I tasted it and I thought it inedible. I was worried my husband might become ill from the fish, but we dodged that bullet. He hates to send things back to the kitchen but he should have. We did let our server know about the proble. like hey say, good ingredients make the difference. I would worry about ordering fish there again.

As always, our experience was 5 stars! Our server, Erica was fresh and delightful. Our entrees were delicious and a full plate! The flourless chocolate cake was heaven on a plate !

Server Avery was excellent! We had a birthday in the group and sat in the patio with perfect weather, excellent mixed drinks and perfect entrees. Avery was a great bar tender as well.

We took advantage of the Wednesday wine & dine offering, choosing the Alaskan halibut & the roasted pork chop entrees. The pumpkin bisque soup appetizer was excellent, and our entrees were prepared to perfection, well complemented by a bottle of pinot gris white wine from Josh Cellars. (We have never had a bad meal served to us from this kitchen, and tonight's dinner did not disappoint.) The outdoor ambience was worthy of New Mexico's sobriquet as the land of enchantment: truly an enchanted evening of wonderful sunlight, the stillness & serenity of a September day, and the pleasant warmth of a sheltered patio setting on the periphery of a manicured golf course. An experience & memory that we will savor & cherish.

Prairie Star is an exceptional experience my wife and I have been enjoying for over 10 yrs. It is our favorite place to treat ourselves to a special evening. Wonderful ambience, exceptional service and excellent food make for an experience worthy of repeating.

Kitchen was off - 2 hours and 15 minutes for meal with no dessert or wine/liquor service. That easily would have added an additional 40-45 minutes to do so. We were just a party of four. A small event held outdoors may have thrown staff off their timing game, but this was a pretty poor effort. Noted in the reservation that this was a special occasion but were seated one two-top away from the entrance and were not able to enjoy a Mountain View.

Had the bison filet it was a special. Didn't resemble a filet lots of grisel. Artichoke was good but service was lacking never hardly saw out waitress t or a manager to ask about pit meal. 2nd time there about a year between visits and same mediocre food and service.

Fantastic food and service. The chef garnished the ginger and carrot bisque with some micro greens (radish or beet?) that were absolutely amazing. So fresh and bright. Brilliantly crafted meal from start to finish. They do charge for bread but it was quite nice bread, something like a petite baguette served with whipped butter and raspberry jam. Great view of the mountains. Extensive wine list. Nice atmosphere, more rustic than elegant, excellent example of New Mexican charm: The Land of Enchantment. Highly recommend.

I am sad to give a mediocre review to the Prairie Star. I have been there many times and loved it. In fact, I took a group of 30 international customers there in 2000, and the reaction of many was that they had a great meal, best ever in the states! Can't say the same for our experience Friday Aug 23. We were in a party of 4; 2 ordered the Prime Rib Special which was very good. The others ordered the fish special and the haddock dish. Both were nowhere near what we've come to expect from Prairie Star. The haddock was ok but it had a very hard section that was inedible. The other dish was very fishy and had a coleslaw that was way over spiced. The waitress offered to take both off our ticket, but apparently the chef overrode this, telling her he'd approve removing the haddock because it wasn't prepared properly, but he didn't approve removing the fish because it just didn't "taste right" to the customer. Apparently, the chef has the final word on what should taste right to the customer. This was also a night when a large wedding party was in the restaurant, so things were SLOOOOW. We were seated for our reservation at about 5:50 PM and not served until after 7:30. This would not have mattered so much if the meal was good. But it didn't help with the overall experience. This was a very disappointing experience for all. My wife and I had invited another couple to experience a wonderful Prairie Star meal. It definitely wasn't wonderful. They were not impressed! We'll probably come back to the Prairie Star at some point, based on our past experiences. But definitely not soon.

The Prairie Star is an excellent restaurant. The food and service are excellent. We frequently go for the fixed price nights on Wednesday and Thursday that includes dinner for two with a bottle of wine. It is a great value. They have one of the best views of the Sandia Mountains in the area and the ambiance is wonderful. It is in a adobe building with small areas that keep the noise level low. We always enjoy our dinners at Prairie Star.

This restaurant is amazing! Great for romance, business or golf buddies just hanging. The food was incredible, and the atmosphere and views are fabulous! We have never had a bad meal. The Wednesday and Thursday prix fixe deals cannot be beat. It's great chance to try something new at a great price.

Our waitress was outstanding. Affable, helpful and attentive. The food was delicious and well presented. The smoked tomato jam was unlike anything you've ever tasted--very good. The "s'mores" desert was exceptional as well. You've got to try it! Sooo rich. We hadn't been to Prarie Star in years. It did not disappoint. Good food in a great location and a wonderful old building.
