The best ice cream I’ve ever had was in St. Louis, Senegal. It was 100 degrees out and we were sitting at an outdoor cafe in the blistering sun with a jillion flies crowding us. After 45 minutes, I griped to my companion, “what, are they hand cranking the ice cream specially for us?” It turned out that yes, in fact, they were. It was amazing. That day I learned that there is nothing like fresh ice cream. I’ve waited years to find something that comes even remotely close.
Mint Chip is as good as that ice cream all those years ago but without the flies or long wait. It’s the kind of ice cream that invites you to be with it, to really taste the flavors and savor the textures, but completely unpretentious. Most vanillas give the term its reputation for being boring and bland. Mint Chip’s vanilla demands my attention. You know you’re at a special place when you’re crowing about the vanilla flavor. Also, they have gluten-free cones!!!!!
My partner and I love coming here. On some local advice, we tried the Ice Cream Emporium, which was a nice thing to do once. The next day we were back at Mint Chip.
Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten-free options! I have celiac’s and did well here.

The first time we came across Mint Chip, we were coming back from camping in the Gila Wilderness. There was a food truck at a print festival. The ice cream was mind-blowing—the kind of food that you’re sure is only a handful of super fresh ingredients and a lot of craft know-how.
But you know how everything tastes better after you’ve been in the wilderness?
We wanted to test whether Mint Chip was the real deal or just our wilderness blinders, so we planned our entire summer vacation around coming to Silver City and going to Mint Chip.
We can vouch that Mint Chip is truly worth taking off of work and traveling hundreds of miles to eat. I even had the chocolate flavor that someone complained about in the google reviews and it was mind-alteringly delicious—the “graininess” was melt-in-your mouth chocolate made from Laura’s magical unicorn ice cream super knowledge.
We got to talking with the owner for a while and appreciate her obvious love for her community, which was infectious for our vacation and helped us really drop into Silver City.
We almost got ten punches on our punchcard, which was our main vacation goal. We fell a little short, so we’re already planning to come back in December for the Christmas event with Power and Light press.

Delicious, high-quality ice cream and baked goods in a cute setting with clean tables and games to play. The ice cream is very good! Extremely friendly service. A wonderful place to grab dessert with the family.

If you want super creamy ice cream, then you may be disappointed with the dark chocolate chip. It was icy and grainy, more like iced skim milk than cream. The homemade waffle cones were a little dark, almost burnt, and not sweet. If we come back to Siver City sometime, I'll give them another chance since the ice cream we got was from the bottom of the container. The service was great, store clean and neat. The scoop size was decent, a little over $6 for a single scoop in the house-made waffle cone.

Unbelievably good ice cream! Even just plain ol' vanilla is outstanding. The seasonal kumquat ice cream is not to be missed. If you live in Silver, this should be a a frequent stop. If you're just visiting, it's an absolute must. Perfect after a hike, or for a little treat while wandering around downtown.
Don't miss out...your taste buds will thank you!

Such good ice cream! Try the rose, it's delicious
Gorgeous candy cane and dark chocolate flavors--some of the best ice cream ever! Great little gift items in there too--picked up a tiny, locally crocheted ice cream cone, cactus stickers, and hot sauce. Yum!

I ordered a cherry pie for thanksgiving and it was honestly the best I've had since my childhood. I haven't gotten any of the icecream yet, but I know they have a variety of flavors I'm excited to try!

I had the pumpkin spice today. It was delicious and tasted like it was made with real pumpkin. The spice flavors were well balanced. Will definitely be back for more!
